I was at the field today between 14:00 & 15:00 all on my own , good flying too. There is a dead sheep along the fence line towards the gate from the pits, I saw the farmer so reported this to her. I hope no one had plans for a BBQ .

Re: Rhyl Airshow 2009.
Being the new boy I have no experience of the club aero tow event but this is how I understood things to be for the weekend of the 8/9 August:
1/ SATURDAY 8th AUGUST, FULL SIZE DISPLAY @ RHYL WHICH MAY OR MAY NOT AFFECT OUR USE OF THE FIELD (TO BE ASCERTAINED TOMORROW)
2/ SATURDAY 8th AUGUST, OFF THE PEG FLYING @ THE FIELD, (WITH AERO TOW PRACTICE?)
3/ SUNDAY 9th AUGUST, AERO TOW EVENT PROPER. NO PROBLEMS FORSEEN.
OBVIOUSLY IF THERE IS A CONFLICT ON THE SATURDAY OF THE 8th AUGUST THEN I WOULD RESPECTFULLY SUGEST THAT ALL FLYING BE BANNED UNTIL A RESONABLE TIME AFTER THE FULL SIZE DISPLAY. IE DO NOT START @10:00 BUT HAVE A VERY LATE START.
So, lets wait and see what I can learn tomorrow.

So can someone confirm who is responsible for the event? It has never been the committee, we only sanction it. All events require a CD. The issue has arisen by a clash of dates and circumstances that require clarrification and have been forced upon us.
A response by any committee member is normal in these circumstances. I have requested the Chairman conviene a committee meeting.

Re: Rhyl Airshow 2009.
Allan, that's an excellent reply, as I mentioned earlier the aerotow event has historically been a Sunday event, very few actually attend the Sunday, let alone the newly introduced Saturday which I might add from memory was a fly off the peg only & not an aerotow practice day.
From me as a club flyer, the fewer the events the better, with the weather as it is, if it's not raining it's blowing a f***ing gale, this leaves very few good weekends for club flying where numbers are getting smaller all the time.

Re: Rhyl Airshow 2009.
Twas I wot raised the issue about risk to full size pilot's from our model flying on the day of the Airshow. It may even be necessary to take extra care on the preceding days too.
The Air Show WILL happen, so deal with it.
I've tried phoning JO'D but as usual the phone's busy. I'll let you know what he says.

Re: Rhyl Airshow 2009.
Ive been pondering this for a while so here gose
Last year I organised the event, this year i think we were just letting it run, there has been no promotion by me this year, and when it came out as a 2 day? event i thought the commitee had took the lead, Saturday has ALWAYS been a normal club day!
As the full size is on the Saturday i now furmly belive that ALL flying should be stoped for the day or atleast 45mins after the planned end of the full size besides most of the club will be in Rhyl watching it anyway
As regard to the letting the athoritize know about our event and proof handed to the commitee, this idea must have just been thought of as both when myself and Richy were on the comitee and aranging said event this has never been mentioned.
As to putting a proposal forward for the event for aproval this late in the year! I think you know that wont happen

Re: Rhyl Airshow 2009.
Back on topic since we have ascertained that the aerotow is ON A DIFFERENT DAY TO THE RHYL AIRSHOW lets try to keep this thread focused on the airshow and how the club can utilise it to raise our public profile.
So any suggestions for text on the flyer?

Re: Rhyl Airshow 2009.
OK, the story so far:-
Called in the police helicopter site this morning and spoke to the pilot and staff : NOTAM not published by NATS yet but the police have recieved a letter for information giving advanced notice of the Rhyl event. They could not find it at the time but the feeling was that the temporary ATZ would extend over the field and be in existance from late morning to late afternoon. Left my contact details so that they could update me as and when. (added info, solo spit doing aero's in the local area on 5th July)
Contacted the 'air director' at the council and spoke about the event and gave my contact details for future updates. Details will be passed to Phill Winterbottom who is co-ordinating the event.
With what I've learnt so far it would be sensible for the club to ban all flying at the field on Saturday 8th August until after tea time say 17:00Hrs at least.
A responsible and pragmatic approach by the club is required to avoid getting on the wrong side of the CAA, THE COUNCIL, THE FARMER ETC , ERGO - NO FLYING SITE!!
Do I need some form of meeting to agree this or are people in agreement?
I'll put notices at the field on the friday to advise anyone not previously informed.
I'm not sure of who put out the details of the event but could they advise all parties they contacted of the changed situation.
Hope none of you think I'm taking over the club, just trying to get things sorted asap

Re: Rhyl Airshow 2009.
Well done Allan
Exactly what was required
I spoke to J O'D just now 12:53 pm
His advice was
J O'D said.........
"you (the club) must liaise with the Airshow organisers immediately and tell them about your activites.
He also suggested that could be possible for the club to give a flying display as well if the organisers could agree to a suitable time window.
You never know, they may welcome a free extra item"......

Re: Rhyl Airshow 2009.
No flying to take place at the field on Sat August 8th untill AFTER17.00hrs. If that's for definate we need to ensure ALL club members are aware of this.

Re: Rhyl Airshow 2009.
Say hello to the Airshow thread again! I've finally gotten around to clearing out some of the stuff that really shouldn't be in this thread. Apologies it has taken so long....
Leigh, the prices according to the membership form that is on the website are £70 for a senior, and £25 for a Junior. Obviously there is a £25 joining fee for new members too
Regarding any conflict with the Aerotow, I'm about to put a post up about that in it's own thread.
Cheers
Andy
