I was at the field today between 14:00 & 15:00 all on my own , good flying too. There is a dead sheep along the fence line towards the gate from the pits, I saw the farmer so reported this to her. I hope no one had plans for a BBQ

Re: Hammer
So how many people have ordered one of these then, and more importantly, do I need a kit that I can put on the pile to build when I finish my workshop?

Re: Hammer
Ok.
Artur recommended this power set ups - if you want to go PRO
AXI 2217/9D GOLD LINE + PG 3 - in his words is just perfect for Hammer.
AXI 2826/8 GOLD LINE + PG 4/33 - hardcore setup - he uses it also in 3m gliders

Re: Hammer
Well according to the UKs main Axi dealer the PG4/33 is good to 1200 Watts. Not being a big fan of gearboxes, can anyone recommend what cell count and prop size one would use on that setup?
The motor is rated at 55A max, which will apply whatever the gear ratio.

Re: Hammer
I can speak to Artur about this setup tomorrow if you wish.
I'm thinking about the PG 3 - if I decide to go power - got a few slopes around me

Re: Hammer
Speaking from experience on a slightly smaller "hotliner" type setup or two, cramming the biggest outrunner you can in the nose of a glider like this works really well, provided you can find room to route the three wires past the rotating can, without them touching. A lot depends on the geometry of the nose section, so it is wise to double check before you buy the motor

Re: Hammer
I'm slowly getting all the info about the power set-ups, will have some other brands than AXI aswell
(AXI 2217/9D GOLD LINE + PG 3) 3S - 15x9 / 14x10
4S also was tested but Artur cant remember now the prop size - will check that for us.
(AXI 2826/8 GOLD LINE + PG 4/33) 5S - 20"x12/13" - this just fits - makes hard to get CG right - and you can winch with it 2m trainers behind the glider
Was fitted for fun - he recommends that for 3m gliders - but well
(AXI 2820/8 GOLD LINE + PG 4/33) 4S - 18,5"x12" - not silly - but serious
Without gearbox - axi 2820/10 - 3S 10''x8''
As for the gearboxes - needs looking after, I was told that rapid accelerations will very likely kill it in a sort time - even the AXI ones.
Some more budget power sets (emax turnigy) will be listed soon)

Re: Hammer
Rob, to maximise the life of the gearboxes, it is worth spending a few quid on a speed controller that can have the accelerations, or startup profiles, programmed to suit. I've had good results from the Castle Creations ESCs in this respect. It is also worth stripping the gearboxes down every 5 hours of run time too, and checking for wear/relubricating etc etc.... No idea if the Axi gearboxes are user rebuildable though....

Re: Hammer
I found out about this setting (slow startup) after I killed my belt CP heli... - first start and stripped most of the gears.... but didn't think about using it for a glider - thanks - that should sort it

Re: Hammer
No worries. The other thing that is worth setting (if your ESC supports it) is the brake strength and delay. Having the ESC brake applied after a short delay (say 0.5 seconds) and then only at a fairly low rate, that will minimise the wear on the gearbox from the braking action. You may need to experiment though to get the optimum folding of the prop, as the longer it takes to fold, the more drag it creates.
Oh, and for fine tuning a setup, you can use the ESC timing settings to tune the amount of power drawn....

Re: Hammer
Rob, just a quick query for you, can you tell me what the distance from the nose to the wing leading edge is on the Hammer Electric fuselage?
Cheers
