I was at the field today between 14:00 & 15:00 all on my own , good flying too. There is a dead sheep along the fence line towards the gate from the pits, I saw the farmer so reported this to her. I hope no one had plans for a BBQ .

Re: First Flights of the Year
I must be honest I gave best to the freezing cold 10mph south easterly that tore at any exposed extremities, my model stayed firmly in the back of the car but fair do's Mark had a good fly with his Cap and we were treated to some pyrotechnics by our chairman Andy who has now recovered from his injuries after hurling himself from his mountain bike on the trans Llandulas C/Bay to Abergele pass. Roy Barnes and RIch both turned up but like me both desisted from aviation, must be something to do with the wisdom of age me-thinks

As the saying goes; the older I get, the wiser my dad was. Stayed in the warm, thank you.

Strange that Richard, as I get older, I seem to be getting less wise!
I had a really good hour or two at the field on New Years Day though. Test flew my duration attempt rocket a few times, and it was nearly a complete success. Just some fine tuning of the CG now to maximise the boost altitude. I need to work on my aim though, I must have walked about 4 miles across the field retreiving it!
Cheers

Re: First Flights of the Year
You can fetch the Rocket when it lands bloody miles away next time then. The walk across a lumpy field warms you up good and proper!
Did you find out what was up with your batteries by the way? Just a bit cold and empty, or something broken?
Cheers

Re: First Flights of the Year
What batteries are they anyway? I did mean to ask at the time, but I forgot. You know how it is when pyrotechnics are involved, I get a bit excited
Anyway, I tend to find that lipos really drop off in the cold weather. For example, a normal half hour flight on the big glider in the summer, would see me putting about 1500mAh back in the packs (for 3min motor run in total). IN this sort of weather, I am using about 2 min of motor run for a 20 minute flight, and putting about 1750mAh back in. Lipos like the cold less than the Jamaican Bobsleigh team!
Cheers
