I was at the field today between 14:00 & 15:00 all on my own , good flying too. There is a dead sheep along the fence line towards the gate from the pits, I saw the farmer so reported this to her. I hope no one had plans for a BBQ .

Re: lipo battery charging
If the LIPO is multi cell I would not buy it without a balance plug.

Re: lipo battery charging
John is it supposedly new as it's very rare now for multicell lipos to be supplied without balance plugs. When lipos first came to the modelling scene it was the norm to just have the main power leads but for quite sometime now they've had a balance plug of one type or another
Re: lipo battery charging
yes the lipos are new 2s1p 7.4 v.
appreciate the info not bought them, will have another look.

Re: lipo battery charging
They can be charged through the output leads which is what we had to do before balancing came along it just seems odd that they should turn up now without said balance leads. Unless the price is very seductive might be best to give them a miss
Re: lipo battery charging
Its actually very rare to find a charger that charges through the balance plugs, as these are severely limited in current carrying capacity. Most units charge through the main leads, and only "bleed" the high cells via the balance plug, during balance phase, using very small currents.

Re: lipo battery charging
Ive made some enquiries and found that the batteries from this company do have a Balance Lead( not shown on photo) and not given in description.
Thanks for all the very prompt info.

Re: lipo battery charging
I do have one of them there very rare chargers Tim that just charges up to 2amps through the balance plugs only but my electrikery requirements are mundane by comparison with some of you electro freaksTim wrote:Its actually very rare to find a charger that charges through the balance plugs, as these are severely limited in current carrying capacity. John sounds like you're sorted
Re: lipo battery charging
Yes Brian, sorted. As a matter of interest my charger also only charges through the Balance Lead. Now for sale ,special price for rare piece of historial electrical rc equipement.
Tim and Co, can you get Chargers that can charge more than one battery a time?

Re: lipo battery charging
Yes....
if of course the batteries are the same type, then simply make up a parallel lead harness and charge them in parallel....
Rare charger eh? No thanks...think I will pass on that.

Re: lipo battery charging
www.schulze-elektronik-gmbh.de have 2 and 3 pack chargers
All designed by Matthias Schulze and his team
Different system from other makes. Good but Expensive. Specialist stuff.
There are 2 users in RDMFC
Schulze balancers transfer charge from high voltage cells to low voltage cells, not to waste. At a rate of up to 2 amps AND during the charge of all cells.
Other makes of charger/balancers pause the charge to drain all cells to the lowest common voltage cell in the pack....so if the pack was charged it isnt...until it is topped up by more charge ...and so on...and on ....wasting time, energy and flying time.
Why balance? LiPo's get out of balance. Even though you start with a pack that has equal capacity cells. They soon develop different capacities and the smallest go flat and become damaged as they go "under voltage" while the rest of the pack continue being used in operation. The low voltage cells can then be casualties.
Very important to stop before lowest voltage cells are damaged by becoming to far duischarged. Hence the auto cutouts.
Have a look, although german, site has alternative english pages.
Very good direct mail order service and several UK stockists Steve Mettam, Crewe, Cheshire; West London; Revolution Models, Altrincham.

Re: lipo battery charging
My balance charger cost me £12 from H/K does all I need, I can just imagine how much petrol I could buy for the price of a Schulze
Re: lipo battery charging
Yep... always found their stuff overpriced TBH and after sales customer service was atrocious the one and only time I ever needed it.
I will NEVER buy Schulze stuff again.

Re: lipo battery charging
Mmm thought that might happen
I've had exceptional service from Schulze over the years with updates and new gadgets
Well pleased
But I do respect Brian and Tims view
I just thought you might like to hear about my adventures with Schulze John in answer to your original thread
