I was at the field today between 14:00 & 15:00 all on my own , good flying too. There is a dead sheep along the fence line towards the gate from the pits, I saw the farmer so reported this to her. I hope no one had plans for a BBQ .

Solo field flying with helicopter
I am aware that at the moment I can't fly me helicopter solo so my question is this, what are the A and B licences, how would I take them and what is the best way to practice? I ask as driving home from work I pass the field and would like to just drop-in and fly but not indispose someone who has to 'babysit' me. Are the licenses different for different size heli's (I use a 450)?

Right I've just read the A licence requirements on the BMFA website and whilst I think the hovering and landing are reasonable I definitely need to work on my side-on and figure-of-eights.

Sorry I was replying as you posted, you seem to have found the majority of the information yourself, good luck
The information is in the BMFA handbook regarding the test criteria.
Someone has to babysit you as you put it, until you pass your "A" test.
It is a very straight forward test to ensure the pilot is competent to fly solo, this is a recommendation by the BMFA which RDMFC adopts as an acceptable level to fly solo.
Same certificate as long as it is a collective pitch heli, again the handbook is a valuable source of information.

Re: Solo field flying with helicopter
Is there anyone at the club who could give me guidance and grade me for my 'A' certificate?

Hi Jason, I can help you out and get you ready for doing an A test. Mark or Richie can do the test with you.

Jason,
What you need to do is come along to the field, there's lots of people there that will guide you in the right direction.
