I was at the field today between 14:00 & 15:00 all on my own , good flying too. There is a dead sheep along the fence line towards the gate from the pits, I saw the farmer so reported this to her. I hope no one had plans for a BBQ .

Na, expensive rubbish!
Keeping it for the nipper to trash lol.
I only posted to indicate that the 1m dlg's (Unless, really really light) arn't worth bothering with.

Re: Wanted* DLG
I thought the little Binary 900 kits were okay. A fair bit of building, and the wings are pretty fragile when handling them (they dent easily). Flying wise, so long as the weight is kept down when building, it should be alright. It is never going to compare to the full size DLGs in terms of glide performance, but they should be much easier to chuck around....
I still say the best Mini-DLG out there is a Mini-Fireworks. In fact, I think it's about time I replaced mine.....

Oh, and Barnes, fit some better servos on the ailerons than towerpoo beasties!
Marty, I would be well in favour of hosting an F3k event at our field one day!

Re: Wanted* DLG
FWIW, When I first started to fly my Binary 900 I almost put it in the bin!
I believe that people buy the mossie class because of cost and it's smaller so it has to be easier, right? WRONG!
Because of restricted launh height of the Mossie Class the flight time isn't enough to be able to trim it properly which results in continued short flight times .....a vicious circle. I eventually got mine trimmed up the Orme one day when the lift wasn't enough for anything else.
Don't get me wrong, I've had 4 and 5 minute flights with my Binary 900 from a flat field and if you just want someting to lob in the works car park at lunch time or a toy to play with at the beach or on holiday it's a lot of fun. They can be "Slermaled" along walls and sand dunes in eally light conditions.
The Mini Fireworks and the Elf are both up there (IMHO) in the competition stakes but whats the point when a full size (only an extra 500mm bigger) will give expoentally longer fligt times?

Re: Wanted* DLG
I don't really think our field would do because of the closeness of the roadAndy Sayle wrote:

The Top guys like Richard swindles, Mike Stern, Nick Chitty and the rest really push the envelope and fly so far away from the "Box" they would be way over the road most of the time, but if we could put the Box Right away from the road it might work.
Re: Wanted* DLG
The point of the little ones (for me, anyway) is that they are more manouverable, fit in the little car easier, and can be flown in smaller spaces than the bigger ones. Horses for courses
Surely the top guys can cope with a no-fly zone?

Re: Wanted* DLG
No real reason why we couldn't use another field, Like the one were using this weekend or one of the a joing fields to ours no need for a runway as such so would only take a bit of investigation.

Re: Wanted* DLG
Stern Chitty and Swindles sounds like a disreputable firm of solicitors to me ! Are F3K pilots not capable of staying out of dead air space?

How about the beach? Loads of room there.....

Re: Wanted* DLG
The top boys go where the lift is!
I will make equiries about "Dead space" but suspect they would feel that would be too restrictive!
I saw Mike Stern do a knife edge throught some trees (because he didn't have the hight to go over them) after he had followed a thermal way, way down wind!
