I was at the field today between 14:00 & 15:00 all on my own , good flying too. There is a dead sheep along the fence line towards the gate from the pits, I saw the farmer so reported this to her. I hope no one had plans for a BBQ .

Re: Quality FPV Vid
OK, 5.8Ghz camera, transmitter & receiver system well on the way, looking forward to getting something to put it all in.
I won't be using goggles just yet, hopefully an old 12v flat screen tv in the back of the car for starters.

Re: Quality FPV Vid
You could spill the beans and tell us what you've got coming with links.
5.8gHz VTx/VRx - 'airwave' or 'lawmate' based modules, o/p power etc?
LP or CP aerials for the video link?
camera type?
RC control? 35mHz/2.4gHz(standard o/p, standard aerials etc)/UHF LRS/ 459mHz (open source firmware)?
Standard airframe cabling or screened? Low pass filter?
Airframe - Pusher foamy(AXN Clouds Fly, Skywalker etc) or flying wing?
Fatsharks are a bit short on supply at the moment. Found some in an Italian FPV shop but a bit doubtful.
Just interested to compare notes.
Got myself a UHF LRS set and a 2mtr twin boom pusher plane start of last year but health went down hill. Gave me time to review things plus things in FPV changed a lot. Took a step back, was getting too deep thinking about auto stabilisation+OSD, antenna tracking etc. Gone back to basics. Just a plane with vid link for short to medium range. Nothing special as its not likely to have a long life. Just waiting for the VTx/VRx and camera.

I haven't got a clue what your talking about I just got the stuff on Mark's recommendations.
Re: Quality FPV Vid
Here's something for you to aim for VIDEO
(AFAIK RC is 2.4GHz, whip antenna and 1W booster)

Yeh seen that just a little worried as the camera wouldn't see through the canopy (get reflections)

maybe not ideal but somewhere to start power is outside our regs but how would you measure it
Re: Quality FPV Vid
If you explore his other vids you will see that 5 days ago he did 6.3km on 25mW (legal o/p). Of course all this is very very dependant on aerials, humidity and aircraft installation.
5.8gHz does not travel far, its soon attenuated, and other users on the band are mainly highly directional point to point links. You're not going to interfer with them and they will not interfer with you. The in band noise floor is also low because of this high attenuation factor. So, 200mW o/p is no more than gnats spit in the grand scheme of things.
In my previous post I compared 'airwave' with 'lawmate', should have been Sky-Rf. Sky-Rf is the cost effective one to use, although some of the frequencies available are outside the band, which can be useful. Airwave VRx sensitivity -85db, Sky-Rf -90db. Very roughly: these figures are the signal level which the VRx can still use to give a picture; 6db equates to 4* power; so the the -85 db VRx would need a signal almost 4* that required by the -90db VRx to get to the same distance from the VTx. This(Ebay unit) appears to use this Sky-Rf module in the VRx(frequencies are the give away) but don't go to Ebay. You can get all this stuff lots cheaper elsewhere, ie HK. Also, throw the aerials away. You'll get too much multi pathing and video drop outs using LP. It's almost obligitary to use CP with 5.8gHz for it to be of any use.
FWIW recomendations from information on various threads:
VTx/VRx combo HERE
Power from drive batteries via LP filter and use screened cable (v/important - no earth loops). May require power regulator also.
Camera: go to these people HERE
Use this ONE with the 3.6mm lense (may need to change to 2.8mm for better field of view). I'll let you know when mine arrives. Or, use this ONE or one of the pixim sea wolf derivities.
Just a small bit of what I've gleaned from lots and lots of reading. Could write more but I need a comfort break.

Thought I'd better add that the above is my take on things and as always you make your own choices from whatever info you can find.

Re: Quality FPV Vid
Thanks Allan,
Some interesting info from the links, there's so much to choose from I wan't OSD as well, which I think I will get from HK at some point it's pretty cheap & has the GPS sysytem for about $40 + postage.
I'm not looking at getting any serious distance 1000m - 1500m would be sufficient for the Rhyl field, just a robust set up & no/little interuptions to video signal, I think is an important aspect of any FPV system

To save you searching this is his shop and advice site HERE
This is his FPV guide (down load the powerpoint version, PDF file corrupted) HERE
Should give you some reading for a while.
Here's a thought, in the future a youngster turns up at the field with one of these plug & play ARTF FPV models and only wants to fly FPV (no buddy lead on Tx), how does the club accommodate him?

Re: Quality FPV Vid
BMFA insurance stipulate a buddy box system for FPV, I'm not 100% sure if it would matter if it were just a model, the buddy lead system applies to goggles, if no goggles just a normal model aeroplane.
If it were the whole 9 yards, goggles etc, then we would be operating outside of our insurance requirements & BMFA recommendations & have to refuse.

Re: Quality FPV Vid
I could be wrong but I've always thought that FPV would eventually become mainstream. I think that at the moment its where electric flight was 10/15 years back.
Interesting that the ARTF P&P model does not use CP aerials - like to see real vid FPV feed and not the onboard recording.
How's the reading going?
What model are you considering for this FPV 'adventure'?

Re: Quality FPV Vid
Not read much yet, I'm going to knock something out of EPP when the gear arrives, something along the lines of the multiplex easystar but slightly larger to accomodate the equipment. And give a lighter wing loading, maybe even a Global Hawk type thing
Re: Quality FPV Vid
Lots of people use the E* or its clones and find there is enough space. In fact a lot of the records are done with these sort of planes.

Re: Quality FPV Vid
Well what did the committee decide to do re a FPV meet at the field?
The Bardney club (BMFA affiliated) are putting on their second FPV meet. If they can then we can, if there is a will to do so.

Re: Quality FPV Vid
If you need a very good FPV machine check this:
URSUS - http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1325273&page=68
Needs some glueing first - but hundreds are flying already all over the world and not one bad review.
Sorry for kinda self advertising

Re: Quality FPV Vid
Got one direct from Marek beginning of last year but my health took a dive not long after. Temporarily shelved in favour of a basic set up in a flying wing.
