I was at the field today between 14:00 & 15:00 all on my own , good flying too. There is a dead sheep along the fence line towards the gate from the pits, I saw the farmer so reported this to her. I hope no one had plans for a BBQ .

Re: Quality FPV Vid
Quality, we must have a crack at this
The only thing that concerns me is the range & the possibility of signal blocking when flying in built up areas around rocks, trees, houses etc.
More research required

Re: Quality FPV Vid
That's a video done by the folk at TeamBlacksheep (look up their Youtube channel, they have quite a few videos like this!). They use UHF radio gear to get extreme range, although I think it is still subject to line of sight restrictions (i.e. physical restrictions, not legal ones).
I'd be up for a trek up snowdon or something to try it out though, I've got a little camera that does pretty good HD footage on a model too....

Re: Quality FPV Vid
Been following this FPV lark for nearly 18 months now. Must have read and am following most of the threads on the main forums. What you want to know - legal/not legal, what equipment etc.

Rich was on about just buying something off the shelf that we will know will work, Rich has read a lot more than me so I will let him bite the bullet first.

I haven't mentioned FPV it was you (Mark) never mind all the research, just do it, if it doesn't work ditch it
Re: Quality FPV Vid
Not so easy to buy off the shelf and go any distance.
For starters:
1/ legal vid powers and frequecies transmitted from plane
2.4gHz @ 10mW or 5.8gHz @ 25mW . Thats it, no 900mHz, 1.2/1.3mHz etc(can cause interference on some mobile phone networks - that'll get the wrong people interested!)
2/ no type of 'ham' licence is of any use in the legal ability to use more powerful equipment.
3/ using 2.4gHz vid gives compatability problems. More of a problem to FPV (lines/interference on vid not much of a problem to RC)
4/ most FPV'ers in the UK use 5.8gHz but need to use CP (circular polarised) aerials to overcome multi pathing. Can be bought can be DIY.
Having followed this topic for some time I have become very aware just how easy it is to buy the wrong items many times over before getting the right combination of parts that work well together. FPV is still new and evolving rapidly.
I could point you in the direction of various sites or discuss the topic as a lot of useful info is best not put on a public forum.

Re: Quality FPV Vid
Here's a thought. How about organising an FPV meet at the field later in the year. It would need a bit of 'double shuffle' as we are a BMFA affiliated club and most, if not all, FPV'ers opperate under the FPVUK rules and insurance and do not use the buddy lead requirement but do use a spotter. In the main they are not MAC members but lone/small groups of flyers scattered around the country.
Perhaps the club could 'loan', for free, the use of the field to the ?Clwyd FPV Group? (a loose association of interested people) under guise of an information gathering exercise.
What do you think????

Not a bad idea,
I think as a club we would have to involve the BMFA office in Leicester to seek guidance before committment.
We have a committee meeting on Thursday so I will raise it under A.O.B.

Re: Quality FPV Vid
It's alright to discuss the differences between the BMFA and the FPVUK on an open forum and a way of accomodating the different rules. The FPVUK gained a relaxation of the 'buddylead' requirement from the CAA. But, only for their members with their insurance. There would be a conflict of approach/rules if any meeting was officially hosted by the club. IMO If a meeting was arranged and it was under the BMFA rules I doubt few if anyone would come as the FPVUK insurance may/probably would not be recognised by the BMFA. They would also need to comply with the BMFA rules(not very likely) and/or join the BMFA(even less likely).
I was trying to explore a way of the club not having any official connection with the event. The fact that we are a BMFA affiliated club means that we have to comply with their rules or risk being thrown out and not getting the BMFA insurance. But, the FPVUK insurance is just as good and cheeper but we would not be supporting our national body.

Re: Quality FPV Vid
Sorry Allan don't see how the Club canot be involved as we are the tenants of the field. If the FPV club arranged a meet with the Farmer that would be different.

Re: Quality FPV Vid
There is NO FPV club. Only individuals and small groups scatered around the country. So, there is no one entity to negotiate with the farmer. FPVUK is an 'umberela ' organisation providing insurance, guidance and negotiating with the CAA.
It was just an idea to add a bit more interest to the club scene. If people really want to have a FPV meet then they will find a way to accomodate the differing approaches.
From what I've learnt FPV seems to cause extreme polarisation of views from members of the modelling population, so much so that many FPV'ers have met with extreme hostility from members of various clubs when those members have learned that they are actively involved in FPV(not at the club sites I would add). This has resulted in prospective members not joining to others leaving said clubs and the BMFA. Such intollerance seems a shame to me. But, thats human nature for you.
