I was at the field today between 14:00 & 15:00 all on my own , good flying too. There is a dead sheep along the fence line towards the gate from the pits, I saw the farmer so reported this to her. I hope no one had plans for a BBQ .

Re: Sbach
Yup sure does I've just fitted my old battered KS can that was in my old AH Ultimate, I did get a Chinese clone with the kit but I'll keep that as reserve as I think it's just an empty can and probably going to be noisier than the KS.Mark Barnes wrote:Bri dose it have a can tunnel ?

Cool, the reason I ask is on the Raven, there is quite a big exit to cut for the pipe exit, you mention that you will need to cut the cowl for hot air out, but wouldnt the can exit do that job, Providing its as big as mine that is.
Dont supose you have a spare header then do you?

Re: Sbach
It has got a couple of outlets near the back of the tunnel but not that big and I'd rather be safe than sorry. It's all done now apart from the tank which I think is going to get swapped out for the one from my H9 Extra, the wings and the radio install. Yes Rich I must be getting old, Ive lent some sod my spare 14 Ch R/X and can I hell remember who it is, it's holding the job up

Re: Sbach
Some Prop-Socks (tm) would look really nice protecting that prop Bri
And Tim, I'm not really fussy who gets their models wearing Prop-Socks I've not got a 14x10 to make a template from though, so could I borrow one to draw around at some point?

Ready to R&R ??
Just about ready to rock n roll just needs a final tighten up and a dab of Loctite here and there. Will probably give the engine a run up here at home tomorrow, was going to do it this arvo but I need to gut my grass as you can see from the photos
Re: Sbach
Told you it wouldn't be long before it was ready, did you manage to make the cowl outlet big enough & did the prop jig work, if so I'll use it on mine now I know it's Ok
Looks nice can't wait for a go

Re: Sbach
Yeh prop jig worked a treat ,so I was the "guinea pig" hey? Cowls sorted just need a small aperture to be able to adjust mixture with cowl in place, soon as the weather plays ball we're ready to rumble.

Very nice that Bri. Makes a change from the usual Yaks, Extras and Edges. By the way, I know a bloke with a sit on mower who's very good at cutting grass!!

Re: Sbach
I wish I hadn't bothered cutting grass this afternoon my old Hayter 21 broke down so I spent a couple of hours stripping the old Briggs and Stratton down. Got it sorted though but could have had more fun running up the DLE55, never mind it is only the second time since 1974 it's let me down
Re: Sbach
Given the DLE it's first run at home this afternoon, have to say it was the easiest start of a new engine I've ever had. Just a few flicks to pump up the fuel and it was away and the setting on the carb seems real good for a start, no doubt it will need tweaking as it runs in. Glad I went with the Krumscheid can as it sounds really quiet. Next job was re-jigging the trailer to get it in there but no probs really. Now all we need is a break with the weather
Re: Sbach
Maidened the Sbach yesterday afternoon no real dramas to speak of, managed to loosen a spat on first flight and needed a few setup changes ie slightly more down than up elevator and more expo generally. The airframe generally is very agile on the controls possibly due to it's short coupled layout. It needs a tad of up thrust in the motor so first time the cowls off I'll sort that but no rush as I can fly round that while the motors running in. Speaking of which the DLE 55 is an absolute joy to operate, very easy to start, throttles well and has more than ample power for the model. Hope it does well in the longevity stakes. Forgot to take my camera so no flying shots as yet
Re: Sbach
And very nice it flew and looked too Brian - I like that scheme a lot.
I'm no expert when it comes to petrol whirly thingies, but the motor did indeed seem to start and run very well. Nice one.
Ive now got three awaiting their maiden flights.....hopefully later this week.

Re: Sbach
Just a quick note for any Fuby users out there, I know we're an oppressed minority due to our excessive spending on "reliable gear". If you're using either the 8 or 14 channel 2.4 receivers with the reduced servo signal voltage ie 2.7V then some servos and accessories will not function for you. I fitted a radio controlled opto isolated ignition switch on the Sbach and it would not work. I've encountered this issue before and the only signal boosters I could find were from Emcotec in Germany and cost around £16 a pop so when I found this problem again on this model I googled around and lo and behold Hobby King now do them and I got 5 for $15, a big saving and they're smaller and lighter to boot.
