I was at the field today between 14:00 & 15:00 all on my own , good flying too. There is a dead sheep along the fence line towards the gate from the pits, I saw the farmer so reported this to her. I hope no one had plans for a BBQ .

Re: My new toy :D
Good choice
Caution with the elevator and rudder controls
The kit includes pull pull wires and horns. (as in the larger HYPE). The instructions about fitting these are rather vague and can result in uncontrollable flutter and subsequent crash on it's first outing if you havn't been warned.
Make sure the horns are LONG (20mm) at the control surface ends and the same on the servo arms.
Check the amount of slop in the elevator and rudder control surfaces as they move over their full travel. There should be no slop at all whatever position you put them in.
For the ailerons, I would use metal clevises with keepers and locknuts.
Don't fudge the throttle control either.
Once this is sorted you will have a great fun fly adventure.
Your LA46 will suit it well. It flies very well even on a 32.
How many passes can you do under the limbo tape in 2 minutes ??
Last year at the Nats it was 33 and it was very very windy !

Re: My new toy :D
Ok thanks for the heads up, I will make sure I dont rush the build and I will make sure everything is good!
I have been warned several times about control throws as it has huuggeee surfaces.

Take your time Sam don't make any silly mistakes just by rushing it, remember "measure twice cut once"
Re: My new toy :D
I secound what Bri has said Sam, dont rush it!
And when it is finishied i strongly recomend you get an experianced flier to check it over and even do the maiden for you, These funfly models can be extreamly twitchey is set up incorectly!

Re: My new toy :D
haha mark... if you wanted a go all you have to do is ask, but yes it totaly agree
here are some pics
So here is the box, quite thin
everything up packaged and layed out
elevator installed
then the rudder
and the rudder control horns
They ddidnt supply enough nuts to fit the blots so I had to epoxy them on there with the bolts running through them, so they should stay put
sorry I forgot to take pictures when I was building the wing, but tis simple enough to hinge the ailerons and attach servos
more pics to come, I cant attach the engine yet as I dont have the right size allen key for the engine bolts

I must have flown 10 different Cougers over the years Sam so wasnt really fishing for ago mate just know what it like to spank a model on a maiden
Epoxying the control arms will be ok, you would normaly remove the covering on the area to be glued (im sure you did this ) However if you had just asked im sure like me most of us on here have a box full of them little nuts
With the pull pull tail controls, Tape the control surface at centre then do one side of the closed loop get it tight but not like a guitar, then do the same with the other side. when you move the control the "pulling" wire will be tight and the "pushing" wire will be slack (just make sure it dosnt catch anywere)

Re: My new toy :D
Sam is there enough thread sticking through to add a nut? I'm not at all sure I like the idea of them just being epoxyed on there
Re: My new toy :D
Fair point Bri, if there is thead there may as well use it, Sam for clarification is this for both ELE and RUD or just RUD?
May also be worth sealing the hinge gap on the control surfaces with some dimond tape if you have some. and pinning the hinges!

Re: My new toy :D
If you don't have a nut, and there is thread sticking out the other side, you can use epoxy to build up a fillet around the exposed thread, adjacent to the control surface (or spreader plate if you have fitted one). This will act just like a nut, and have the added benefit of being a right pain to undo. Make sure the control horn is seated properly though (no gaps between control surface and control horn).
Or, you could just tell me whether it is an M3 or an M4 thread, and I'll bring a stack of nuts to suit for you

Re: My new toy :D
This is the rudder and elevator and there are threads sticking out but not alot.
Something tells me it wont be ready by tonight as I dont have a drill for the elevator push rod, or any allen keys for the engine mounts as dad has taken everything to work with him, I have tightend the wires to a decent tention but there is about 3mm play either way, but im not sure if this is just the flex of the balsa or what.
Thanks for the info and I think I will do what andy suggested with epoxy on the threads, and Andy, im not to sure what M3 or m4 threads look like so could you bring a 3 or 4 of each for me to try over the weekend as Im going to be working on the plane tonight as I dont think I will make it.
Im not gonna rush it and bodge it to get it done by tonight so I will have it ready for its maiden by the weekend
Thanks for the tips and help

Re: My new toy :D
Ahh this rudder pull pull is getting to me!!!
I cant get the right tension on it!!!
Im sure a stick with a clevis on the end would of been much more simple!!!

Re: My new toy :D
Well when I tighten it up to where there is no slop in the rudder, the pushing wire doesnt become slack, so I losen it intill the pushing wire becomes slack and then it has shed loads of play!
Ahhhh

Re: My new toy :D
Ok well I got the rudder wires sorted out with virtualy no slop
Then I got the engine mounted up
then the throttle servo installed and linkage set up
Then I installed the tank, rx and battery, check the CofG and it was spot on with an empty tank, so im very happy
I sorted out the control throws to the recomended throws but I had to put heaps of Expo on the ailerons because they were so twitchy.
So here is the model finished and ready for irs miaden flight
Ok, so over all I really like the quality of the model, all the plastic nylon parts seemed very strong, and the included engine mount was extreamly strong, most of the build went without a hitch.
On to the bad points, when I got the modle out of the box, every pannel on the modle had wrinkels or a dent/ding in the covering but thats easily sorted, the instructions on the rudder pull pull system are very very vauge and the pictures do not show clearly how to set it up, but luckily I had help on the forum
The included engine mount required some serious butchery on the grinder to get the inluded bolts to fit!
Over all I really like the look and feel of this model, and I think its gonna fly great!
I enjoyed the build and would definatly do it again!!!
