I was at the field today between 14:00 & 15:00 all on my own , good flying too. There is a dead sheep along the fence line towards the gate from the pits, I saw the farmer so reported this to her. I hope no one had plans for a BBQ .

New toy for slope & field
I flexed the plastic this weekend, bought myself a reasonable sized glider for both the slope & flat field, it's from Acemodel I've bought the "E" version & a fuz to convert to slope

Re: New toy for slope & field
That's the same as Bob G's isn't it? Or has he got the one that is slightly bigger? Looks nice though
Motor/ESC/Prop/Cells combo depends on what sort of model you are after. Lightweight flat field thermal seeker, or ballistic missile hotliner, or somewhere in-between?

Re: New toy for slope & field
it's slightly smaller 2.1m somewhere in the middle to top, I have a thermal seeker
Re: New toy for slope & field
Ah, so you want this one to go upwards. Quick!
If the spec on that model is the same as the older version (the V tail one), then the nose should be able to take a 36mm can motor. I would be seriously tempted by one of the MVVS outrunners in a can (the 5.6/960 redliner in particular, Puffin seel them for about £100, not cheap, but really nice). You would need to double check it fits, but that motor would be excellent on a 3s lipo and something like a 15x10" prop for about 60 amps or so (600 watts ish).
The other motors I would be looking at, are the Mega 22/45 series, and the slightly smaller 22/30 series motors. They are also really good quality motors. There are a couple of winds that would work, some on 3s lipos, and some on 4 or 5s lipos. The 22/30/4e would be good on a 5s lipo and a 14x9 prop for around 45 amps (700 watts ish), although it is at its limit there.
So what do you fancy then, high quality but pricey? Or cheap and cheerful? Also, do you have a preference on the number of cells you want to use (3, 4, 5, 6 or more?!)

Re: New toy for slope & field
I'll have to wait until tomorrow to see how much room there is inside the fuz, a good quality is the answer, buy cheap buy twice is the key I think
Re: New toy for slope & field
My thoughts exactly....
Measure it up when you get it. If you want to try a proper heavyweight motor/gearbox in there, I know where there is a Hacker B50 and a 6.7:1 gearbox that is now homeless It's good for 1.5kW plus!

Indeed, it would be a bit on the lardy side, but it wouldn't half shift!

Re: New toy for slope & field
After Andy has finished being silly and we have proper sizes i`ll spec a good hot to touch set-up lol, I would sugest somthing 3s to make use of the packs you have 6s will be a struggle in that fuz i reckon

Meh, I was serious about all of the above (apart from the Hacker!), and they are all perfectly sensible choices (apart from, maybe, the Hacker!)....

Re: New toy for slope & field
you can get the 2600 3S 40C straight in there with room to spare for the motor speedo receiver sevos there's a little trick hatch on the bottom if you look on the website where the servos go
Re: New toy for slope & field
I saw that little hatch, it's a neat idea, I like it!
Motor wise, I would seriously be looking at the MVVS redliner, or one of the Mega 22/30 series (or perhaps 22/45 if you think you will need the nose weight to balance, or want the motor running under it's limit). Cells, you can use any 3s lipo that fits and can output 40-45 amps. ESC, get one that can cope with 60Amps, and you are laughing. Prop, look at something around the 14x9, 15x10, and that should be pleeenty!

Re: New toy for slope & field
If you want to try an outrunner in there, the Hyperion Z3025-08 would be pretty good as well (same prop and cells). It will be tricky getting the wires past the rotating case without touching though....

Re: New toy for slope & field
Pretty much what Andy says, MVVS look the dangles but the megar 22/30 is the better choice. there are plenty of outrunner type motors that would be great BUT they will be an bottom to mount!
Will you run a ubec or one of your little regs for RX power?

Yeh I thinking of a ubec, I'll bring it down the field Thursday unless someone wants a look before then, sheds always open & occupied by the resident

Re: New toy for slope & field
Ok Andy,
This fuz is much slicker than the "V" tail version, I've tried on of Marks motors 28mm just fits nicely with no room for a 36mm, get thinking mate
