I supose you can, but you would have to be a SUPER ELECTRONICS MAN WHO KNOWS EVERYTHING AND INVENTED 2.4ghz radios but I think radio's such as the dx7 can operate on dsm and dsm2

Thats what the Techno Boffs do because they don'y know either, they mainly cut & paste from someone elses knowledge base.

Yes it will, as will the DX6i.
The only Spektrum Tx which will not operate both is the DX6, and thats DSM only.
That brief enough for you?

The DX7 and DX6i sorts itself out when binding, and puts the TX in the appropriate mode (DSM or DSM2) depending on what the receiver tells the TX. All the other spektrum stuff is DSM2 only, with the exception of the original DX6 (DSM only).

I think it was a case of Spektrum testing the water with a fairly basic communication protocol, and then developed it further when they realised that there was a pretty large market for it...

In a word No. The Dx6 was intended for ground based short range vehicles only, and the only rx it will work with is the DSM AR6000 park fly
