I was at the field today between 14:00 & 15:00 all on my own , good flying too. There is a dead sheep along the fence line towards the gate from the pits, I saw the farmer so reported this to her. I hope no one had plans for a BBQ .

BMFA DLG achievement scheme
Just thought I would share this snippet with you chaps.
I wrote to the BBFA yesterday with regard to the silent flight and glider achievement scheme not being applicable to DLG's
I have had a reply from Terry Rounce the Chairman of the Acheivement Scheme Revue Committee (ASRC) who just said the he has forwarded my views to the rest of the committee.
Sounds a bit like the cheque is in the post but there you are ..... at least I got a reply.

If you don't ask, you don't get. Nice one for asking though. Do you mind if I follow it up and make a similar suggestion too? The more that enquire, the more likely something will happen!

Re: BMFA DLG achievement scheme
I would be more than happy for you to follow up mate.
The main reason I have the bit between my teeth on this one is to have the facility to attain a "B" cert so that DLGr's can demonstrate at Club Shows.
As nearly everyone in the Club must know by now I personally have little or no interest in flying powered models and I don't see why I should be forced to spend money just to achieve a test.
Terry did say the the rules state that for the silent flight / glider tests you need a height of 100m! mmmmm even you Andy would struggle to do that with a DLG!

Re: BMFA DLG achievement scheme
I've been working out though, 100m should be doable now, heh heh!
It is quite obvious that the thermal tests are not designed with consideration for DLGs at all. I don't know if another silent flight subdivision of tests, specifically for DLGs (or Hand launched gliders) would be appropriate, or just some provisions made in the existing silent flight thermal tests.
Perhaps the simplest solution to allow me to do the tests would be to aerotow a DLG, using a lightweight bit of string taped to the nose of the DLG? Not ideal, but saves spending money on a new model

Re: BMFA DLG achievement scheme
I've had an answer from the BMFA Committee which basically says:
The candidate must provide a model which is capable of performing the taskes stated in the tests.
There it is!
THE END

Re: BMFA DLG achievement scheme
I have the glider to do the thermal test straight of the bungee, we could book Ray the area cheif examiner to do this.
Seeing that you are on the same mode as me dead easy.

Re: BMFA DLG achievement scheme
winds are forecast to be about 7 mph so a DLG night might be on the cards.
