I was at the field today between 14:00 & 15:00 all on my own , good flying too. There is a dead sheep along the fence line towards the gate from the pits, I saw the farmer so reported this to her. I hope no one had plans for a BBQ .

Electric Fence Batteries
Two heavy duty batteries were delivered to the field today and left by box for electric fence use. A special thanks to Colin Little.

Re: Electric Fence Batteries
Well done Colin - nice one - they look very nice units. However, should we be securing them somehow as they look very nickable, nearly nabbed em m'self yesterday !

Re: Electric Fence Batteries
Thanks Colin, these batteries should keep the fence going for some time. Speaking of which we may well see cattle on the field before the end of the week as I belive the fertilizer was spread on the field sometime last week so we need the fence in GWO.

Re: Electric Fence Batteries
Good stuff on the new batteries.
If anyone who knows their way around an Electric Fence can just double check that it is in tip top condition before the onslaught of new moo-bullocks, it would be much appreciated. Ideally, we want them cow-ering (pun fully intended) in the corners of the field, scared stiff of getting a belt of the fence
Scared beef = tastey beef after all.
Cheers

Re: Electric Fence Batteries
Not 100% sure, but think I spotted that the correct deep set earthing rod was not in use yesterday? This is possibly due to the original location of the main box being moved last year and then re-positioned again. Also, at least one of the corner post plastic wire retainers is broken - lower one I seem to recall. Remeber too that the original power unit was re-furbed by myself and was left in the peg board box if needed - not sure if its still there though?

Re: Electric Fence Batteries
the old power unit is still there if required, anybody have an idea of what's required to repair the earth rod connection. I know it's working I had a belt of it today.
Re: Electric Fence Batteries
I think it is just a case of hammering the Earth Rod into the ground (tool required, er, a big hammer?) and wiring it up to the earth terminal on the bottom of the power unit thingy.
While we're on the subject, we were talking about the possibility of being able to move the box back a few yards to clear the strip on days when the box might become a bit of a liability (eg IMAC days). So, we could do with being able to disconnect the earth cable easily (perhaps a brass bolt on type connection to the earth rod, with an eyelet on the cable?)
I'm hoping the weather holds and I can get over to the field tomorrow evening after work, so I'll take a look then, unless anyone else does before then.
Cheers

Re: Electric Fence Batteries
the large earth pole is in the ground, if I remember there is a smaller one which is connected
Re: Electric Fence Batteries
The large earth pole is the recommended but it has somehow become disconnected and the small earth pole is currently used and probably only goes into the ground 6" or so. The 1meter rod needs reconnecting for the fence to work correctly and during dry weather wetting to help the conductivity. Anyone able to put a brass bolt on it is welcome. It is hammered into the ground infront of the box.
There was a suggestion of putting the box onto wheels for moving at events, how about a sack truck with the handles cut down?
I was told these batteries cost over £200, anyone want to store them before they disappear?
