2018-07-07, 21:07 by Gary M Jones

I was at the field today between 14:00 & 15:00 all on my own , good flying too. There is a dead sheep along the fence line towards the gate from the pits, I saw the farmer so reported this to her. I hope no one had plans for a BBQ Smile .

Went to field today, cut grass, checked battery showing only 5 volts even with the solar panel connected, got a battery from a good source & fitted it. Solar panel is not connected at the moment. I'll get some larger terminals & mod it this weekend. Very Happy

no worries I was having my tea then saw the weather forecast (rain), so I shot down, the ground was very dry.

Good on you Rich, thanks mate. Next time just ring Mark to give you a hand, on second thought he might get in the way. I would offer to help but usually I am busier than a cucumber in a woman's prison cheers

I suspect the solar panel won't be doing much other than keeping the fence going for an extra day or so. It would need to be a fair bit bigger to keep a decent sized leisure battery topped up. Still, it stops me from sitting on the box whilst out with the glider Smile

I think I need to translate my signature into a foreign language. It would make it more abstract then, and people might actually beleive it then Smile Smile

We have two new batteries for the box (free source). Our intrepid electric expert assured us that the solar panel would only keep the battery topped up.

I didn't have to pay for the brand new one that's fitted, if you get the one's you have to the field I'll take them home charge them up properly & use as spares for when we need them, when the cattle come onto the field I think it will be wise to connect two together increasing the capacity for a while.

What sort of duration do we get from a single charge, approximately?

I'm not telling you as you might start to bore us with calculations etc, in a nutshell when the field is not in use the solar panel will not maintain what's being taken out by the transformer, when the field is in use I'm sure something will be put back in, the current..!!! battery is 105AmpHrs

All I know is that the solar panel was never intended charge but to help sustain the life between charges. If I remember correctly (sure someone I'm sure someone won't delay in jumping in) the battery would last a couple of months if it didn't touch the ground. You can work it out with this information if you wish. The energiser we use requiries a minimum 85 AH battery and now for the techno: Power Source: 12v 80Ah Stored Energy: 1.6 Joules Max Power Use: 120 mA Open Volts: 9,500v.

A more powerful battery only extends the cycle to next charge.

A 33 watt solar panel is recommended to keep battery fully charged. Techno: Power Source: a 12v 80Ah, solar panel Stored Energy: 3.75 Joules Max Power Use: 300 mA
Open Volts: 9,500v.

Haven't a clue how powerfull our solar panel is.

we have ones at least 1m x 1m & they push out 6amps so judging by the size of ours I would save max 0.5amp
