I was at the field today between 14:00 & 15:00 all on my own , good flying too. There is a dead sheep along the fence line towards the gate from the pits, I saw the farmer so reported this to her. I hope no one had plans for a BBQ Smile .

Spacewalker Empty Spacewalker

Post by Mike S 2010-11-18, 17:08

After a lot of pondering, I had the urge to get the glue and scalpels out and BUILD a model. I've always wanted a 30% Spacewalker and Sussex Models had one sitting on the shelf doing nothing!! shows how long ago I last built a kit..... opened the box and found a load of balsa wood!!!

I've started the outside section of the right wing but need a 4-40 tap, which I've ordered from the States, in order to get the 3 piece wing joiner in line.

Must have too much time on my hands!! Shocked

Mike I would consider changing over to B.A. or M.M. at the build stage alot easyer to get spares if you need then later on.

Roy.

Nothing wrong with doing some REAL balsa bashing. Look forward to seeing the finished item.

4-40 is as near to M3 as you'll get most airwild servo arms are 4-40 when you tap them out M3 is perfect

I did consider using a 3mm bolt but it was a little oversize for the thickness of aluminium. I've tried a few more bolts but the 4-40 seems to be a perfect fit. I've also ordered a couple of dozen spare bolts from the States just in case.

Most Great Planes screw accesories (Like at Steve Webbs) are UNC threads of high quality and plated.
Or
For UNC (including 4-40) stuff try this firm
Richard Delaney (2005) Ltd
75/77 Mill Lane, Macclesfield, Cheshire, SK11 7NP
Tel: 01625 427466/01625 427370 Fax: 01625 614922
Email: sales@richarddelaney.co.uk

Major stockists for all screws tools etc in Macclefield area serving most local manufacturers
They have all the stuff modellers use too
including boxes of 3 and 4 mm nylock or philidas stiffnuts, 3mm 4mm etc socket head cap, countersunk and grub scews.
Small size UNC taps and dies. Also various steel sections etc.
The staff bought the business of Richard when he tried to retire in 2000.
It has been going great guns ever since and Richard pops in from time to time.
Just phone them

MIke you should have asked on here, I've got a 4-40 tap you could have borrowed Smile

Or, if you wanted your very own one, you can buy all sorts of wierd and wonderful thread type taps and dies here:

If you haven't visited lately, Model Exchange in Greenfield has all the American stuff on the shelf (loads of it) including unc taps, bolts. He appears to stock just about everything from Great Planes, Robart and Expo tools as well as a complete stock of balsa, carbonfibre, ply, plastruct, styrene, glues etc etc etc. It's turned into an Aladins cave cheers

Thanks for all the info from everyone, much appreciated. I've got a good stock of American thread nuts and bolts from the Ohio kits I've built but wasn't aware that Model Exchange stocked the Dubro stuff. I'll call in next week and take a look. Cheers.

The Spec is: Wingspan 104"
Length 72"
Wing Area 1800 inch square
Weight 20lb

I'm thinking of fitting a DLE55. Very Happy
