I was at the field today between 14:00 & 15:00 all on my own , good flying too. There is a dead sheep along the fence line towards the gate from the pits, I saw the farmer so reported this to her. I hope no one had plans for a BBQ Smile .

First of all many thanks to Mark for putting the images on the forum. Some of the details are as follows :-
The model is scratch built in the original sense ie. the plans were drawn from three views and photographs. There were several reasons for this, most kits are inaccurate in various ways, thick wing sections, longer nose for balance etc, the final reason, I like drawing plans.
The model is 82" span (none of this metric nonesense) Weighs about 13lbs giving a wing loading of approx 23 oz/sq ft. Sadly it is not electric powered, but by a Zenoah 26 with a 20*6 prop.
It is constructed from conventional materials ie balsa, spruce, ply, (may be these are not conventional these days) it is covered in silver solar tex with hand painted roundels etc.
The model has not flown, I am hoping for lots of moral support on its first flight. The first flight is when I will find out the reason for the longer noses and the none scale wing section.

Look forward to seeing it fly George, I'm sure we can muster some support but whether it will be moral or not is another matter. With the short nose have you struggled with the C/G?

Nicely done George, look forward to seeing it in the air. There are very few WW1 models in the club so it will make a change to see something different at the field.
Like Brian I wonder if the C of G was a nightmare or was the Zenoah heavy enough to balance it?

The biggest problem was finding where the C of G should be. The aeroplane is a sesqiplane with both wings swept back, which enables the
C of G position to be further back, however using available formulae I worked out a position, in the end I cheated and looked at various existing plans and used their C of G position. The calculated one and the copied ones came quite close.
The Zenoah is indeed a heavy engine, together with twin Rx batteries on the firewall the C of G came out at the right position ( I hope ).
