I was at the field today between 14:00 & 15:00 all on my own , good flying too. There is a dead sheep along the fence line towards the gate from the pits, I saw the farmer so reported this to her. I hope no one had plans for a BBQ .

What DLG?
Hi Guys, Well I think I am in the market for a DLG! With Summer coming and thermals everywhere it's the way to go! (SWMBO dose not know yet lol).
I'm kinda interested in people's thoughts on which dlg models are value for money or one's to stay away from.
All answers appreciated.
Cheers
Marty

Re: What DLG?
Ooooh, DLG's, right up my street!
I've currently got two of them. Well, three if you count an Alula as a DLG The big one is a Blaster 2 from Hyperflight. Fantastic 1.5m glider, that is really easy to fly well, and pretty easy to launch. The wing is hollow moulded, and does have a reputation of being easy to damage, although I haven't managed to bust mine yet
The other one I have, is a 900mm class DLG called a Mini Fireworks from T9 hobbysport. This is a hollow moulded wing again, but is a bit more resilient than the Blaster. It doesn't launch as high as the Blaster, and it has a faster sink rate. However, it is exceptionally aerobatic, and brilliant for chukcing around in gusty conditions. We had a fair few flights up at the 3DRC fly in on saturday in a 15mph breeze!
The Dreamflight Alula is another potential. This is a foamy wing, that is brilliant fun. It is no where near as efficient as my other two DLG's, but being foam it is MUCH more resilient to chucking around on the beach, and generally arsing around with it.
There are quite a few others out there, ranging from cheap to horribly expensive. The best thing to do, is set yourself a budget, and let us know. We can then recommend kits that will suit your needs. Don't forget to factor in four decent servos (3 if you get a 1m class DLG) a receiver, rx pack etc. You will also tend to find that the cheaper kits will need more work to get flying. The Blaster2 is pretty pricey (£245 the last time I checked), but it is highly prefabricated. All you need to do is bond the tail feathers on, chuck in some servos and a receiver, set the linkages up, and away you go.
Oh, and if you want to have a go of mine, just let me know! I normally have them both in the back of the van, and you are welcome to have a chuck!
Cheers

Re: What DLG?
Marty - it was the Blaster 2 that I was flying when were up the Orme with Steve Dorling and Andy Ellison the other week. I have the Alula also, which you may remember us flinging up in the road out side the house!

The other one we were playing with up the Orme was the "Kung Foo" from Ian at sloperacer.co.uk - went well, and is IMO - better VFM than the rather pricey Blaster.

Re: What DLG?
Thanks for that input Chaps
It's food for thought! I do fancy the Kung Foo but would it look so docile in my hands? probably not .... I make the Easy glider look like a Spaniel on speed!
You'll have to pardon my ignorance, but what is a 900mm class & 1m class? Obviously it's for competition but what is the dicilpline?
Andy, what mode are your gliders? I'd love to have a crack ... mmm maybe not the right word lol.
I gotta get the A cert cracked so I can fly without inconvieniencing (spelling? lol) someone all the time! (Tim has been a saint!)
Thanks again guys

Re: What DLG?
I can't either on the slope racer site but there is mention of them in the stock lists (they say they have two ).
I saw one in the hands of Ian when I was up the Orme and I have to say it looked impressive! fantastic height was achieved on the launch and real slow sink rate (well in his hands! )

Re: What DLG?
I fly mode 2, but will very shortly have a mode1 tx available for buddying
DLG's are pretty easy to fly really. They are nice and slow, and when the CG/trim is set correctly, they are very stable indeed. I can quite happily take my hands off the sticks for 10 seconds or more in straight and level flight.
Oh, and the classes I mentioned are basically just the wingspans. F3k competitions (for DLGs) usually see most entrants flying 1.5m (60") machines.
Another one to consider is the topsky viper from t9. £200, and it looks pretty robust with a blue foam cored wing (vac bagged with kevlar and carbon). I'm tempted to try one myself, but I need to buy approximatly 8 decent servos soon, which is going to clean me out of toy money for a while....
Oh, and it's not a Kung Foo glider, its a Kong Fu, also from T9. £135, but there is a fair bit off building to do it seems: http://www.t9hobbysport.com/item.asp?catid=102&subcatid=165&prodid=485

Re: What DLG?
I'm not sure if thats the one I saw up the Orme or not, I think it also has a more upmarket sister that has a carbon Fus'
As for this mode thing ...... IMHO .... 1 (one) comes before 2 (two) there for it should be the 1st (FIRST) choice! However I digress, thats a good idea of yours to have a buddy box with the proper mode on it

Re: What DLG?
But hyperflight don't sell them ready built with four decent servos installed, a 450mah lipo rx pack and voltage regulator, and if they did, it would cost rather a lot more than £245
it's yellow and blue too

Re: What DLG?
Gotta say it's tempting Andy (Shame its not RED! Chicks dig RED! pmsl).
I was thinking of something a little smaller, maybe I could have a go when I get home?

Re: What DLG?
Marty, you are more than welcome to have a go
If you want something more compact, prettymuch bulletproof, and great fun, without costing the earth, you really can't go wrong with a Dreamflight Alula. The kit is about £50, then you just need to chuck a couple of little servos, a receiver and a battery at it, and it pretty much flies itself!
