I was at the field today between 14:00 & 15:00 all on my own , good flying too. There is a dead sheep along the fence line towards the gate from the pits, I saw the farmer so reported this to her. I hope no one had plans for a BBQ .

No bottle!
Ok guys, I am officially a woose!
I took my Xeno up to Holyhead mountain where the conditions were probably perfect for slope-ing. To the west of the actual mountain there is a steped (terraced) bowl that the wind was blowing onto.
I had everything ready!
There were no other pilots around.
The model dialed in on the Tx, all linkages checked, RX on and surfaces moved in the right direction, did a range check as far as I could see .....
Picked up the model which was about to have it's maiden and then .........
I bottled out!
Thoughts like, what if I haven't got the C of G right? What if it goes balistic and just loops back? What if it dives like a brick?
Well the end result is .... the Xeno still needs a maiden
I stood there poised on the edge with the model wobbling in my hand , I decided that if in doubt, there is no doubt .... don't do it, so I didn't.
I have mixed emotions about the abort but at the end of the day I still have my model and it is still in one piece.
So, any leg pulling will be excepted on this occasion ..... bring it on!

Well you've still got it all to enjoy again ?
Situations like that get the adrenaline running.
I believe it's brown, in fact, I know it is.

Re: No bottle!
Like you said Marty, you still have your model and it lives to fly another day.. Happy Days
Re: No bottle!
It's nothing to be ashamed of, I've had similar days myself. There has been more than one occasion that I have brought my Jet down to the field, and left it in the van because the "wotifs" put me in the wrong frame of mind for flying it....
On the other hand, if you do chuck it off, and lose it, I know where the is another one that can be yours for a small fee

Re: No bottle!
I think maidening a sloper from a hand launch is quite tricky on your own, it's fine hand launching yourself when you know the model's trimmed out and going to fly ok, but for the first flight it's always nice to have someone launch for you so your thumbs are poised on the sticks ready for any eventualities
Re: No bottle!
Thanks for the kind words chaps.
Andy, don't you like yours?
Zaidy, have a safe trip m8 and see you soon.

Re: No bottle!
You made the right call staying in Holyhead as I went up the rock around 2.30 and the wind dropped to near zero so no flying for me.
As a matter of interest the right hand car park is closed off with boulders as there is a large hole in the centre of it filled with mud I think that Timbo must have dropped one of his sticky buns last time out

You needs a chucky glider like my Blaster, or Mini Fireworks, that will fly in next to no wind on the slope

Re: No bottle!
Staying on thread.
Am I right in thinking that if the model flies level and straight from a hand launch on a flat field, providing nothing is changed it will be timmed for the slope?
When I sloped before with a 2 channel model called the Colt I was young, foolish and ignorant .... a bad combination, but I just chucked it off the hill on its maiden, I hadn't even check the CofG
I may have just been lucky that it stayed up

Re: No bottle!
That's correct - but...
On the slope it will fly much faster - and then may need some trimming on the elevator - depends on airfoil, and all angles.
My sloper was tested like this - on the flat field was spot on , on the slope was trying to escape in the sky.
Problem solved -I just moved CG few mm forward - after that is perfect, all control surfaces in line - no up or down.
Check for others people settings on the net - you will find best tested settings

Re: No bottle!
Have slope soared models in Glossop, Buxton and Winter Hill near Bolton.
Learned that any flat field gliders needed a more forward CG for penetration to stop model drifting backwards. If necessary, extra ballast was added to stop it disappearing upwards too.
The most hairy slope was Rush Up Edge on the A62 to Huddersfield. (recently mentioned by Andy S elsewhere).
"You could easily fly a paving stone there"... well that's how it seemed to me.
There you needed added ballast besides a forward CG. Maybe 2-3 lbs on a 2 metre sloper
Also, have a look at http://www.slopeflyer.com/soaring/

Re: No bottle!
Thanks for the link Paul, and the info, I gotta get this cracked coz Angelsey must offer great sites for all directions!
Re: No bottle!
There's a nice little slope for south westerlies at Cemaes Bay, the one north of the beach there....

Re: No bottle!
Andy, there was a guy I spoke to on the RCM&E forum about a year ago who was in the RAF, stationed in Valley, He said that he used to be able to fly what ever the wind direction was because there was always somewhere on Anglesey he could go.
I don't know if he had permission or where the sites were, he seems to have dropped out of sight now so I can't ask him

I'd just chuck it off but make sure the CoG is about right before
