I was at the field today between 14:00 & 15:00 all on my own , good flying too. There is a dead sheep along the fence line towards the gate from the pits, I saw the farmer so reported this to her. I hope no one had plans for a BBQ .

How do I start?
Hi there,
I'm new to all this rc stuff but I would like to get into rc planes and my friend Sam Thomas said this would be a great place to start.
I've had a 2 channel and flown it easily so I would like to progress but I really don't know where to go.
Basically I would like some advice really on which plane to buy and where to fly it?
And also would I need an instructor?
Thanks,
Barney Broatch (age 13)

Basic equipment,
A a minimum of 4 channel transmitter, 6 is best this will allow for future expansion, 35Mhz radio is cheap and readily available, however if you are new with no quipment then 2.4Ghz is the future Spectrum & Futaba do some nice reasonably priced entry level equipment.
Four channel trainer, with 4 or 5 servos this will come with radio set if purchased complete.
Glow engine, .40cc size , .46cc - .50cc is best for future expansion.
A model restraint
Glow fuel
Electric starter
Glow starter
Field box with fuel pump
Spare glow plugs
Basic tool kit i.e. plug spanner, prop spanner, various screwdrivers, spare silicone fuel pipe
Therer are several instructors at Rhyl & District Model Flying Club (RDMFC), tuition is free, you have to decide on mode 1 or mode 2 this is really your choice, we have a mixed variety of mode 1 & mode 2 instructors.
Membership of a model club this gives you the best chance of success.

Welcolme to the forum,
Mode 2 in basic terms is throtle on the left and mode one is just wrong
As Rich has said you best bet is to get in with a proper club, wether it be Rhyl or elsewere, the free advise and guidance will be a model saver i garente it.
Insurance is a must, may seem petty but if you do hit somone with out it your in alot of bother
Models as Rich as said, keep the spitfire or large performace airplane a dream for a while
ASK, if your unsure or have doubs just ask somone. Some shops will try to sell you somthing completely unsutable we have seen many turn up with rubish, then get dishartened and never return, you may end up paying a few quid more but it will be worth it
Ive always said and maintain you will need £200-£300 to get yourself up and running
And finaly get a sim Pheonix/AFPD/Realflight etc etc this will give you good grounding and help with the basics, i still use mine daily (some would argue i need to use it more)

Re: How do I start?
When does this club meet?
Is it just on Tuesday's at Llysfaen as I can't make Tuesday's because of the ATC in Bangor.
Do you meet for weekend flying?
How much is membership?
P.S. Sorry for all the questions!!!

Re: How do I start?
Barney it's your choice of which mode you learn, like I sais earlier mode 1 is mode 1 & mode 2 kackers just seem to crash a lot more must be a control thing.
Re: How do I start?
The Llysfean meet is nothing to do with the club its a get together organised by some of the members
The R&DMFC have a feild just outside Rhuddlan which we can use all year round, once you have passed a BMFA A cert you can fly whenever you like, before then you will need to be with an instructor
Fees can be found on the main club site in the membership form (click club site on the top bar)

Re: How do I start?
Hi Barney, as Mark said the Llysfaen indoor sessions are nothing to do with the Rhyl & Disrict MFC and are run by myself and Brent as something to do through the winter months. You would be very welcome if you get the chance. Do`nt be confused by all the banter about mode1 or mode2, it is a matter of personal taste which mode you fly and at the Rhyl club we cater for both. When the weather improves, try and scrounge a lift with Sam and come down to the field when all will be explained.

Barney this photo shows the 4 modes that are used with twin stick double axis transmitters modes 3&4 are seldom used realistically your main choice is between modes 1&2. It's best to choose before you buy because some trannies are not easy to change modes
