I was at the field today between 14:00 & 15:00 all on my own , good flying too. There is a dead sheep along the fence line towards the gate from the pits, I saw the farmer so reported this to her. I hope no one had plans for a BBQ Smile .

I know its usual to have a nickname on forums, but sometimes its annoying too!
For instance who the heck is - aescom256 ? I can figure out the easier ones, but really, is it necessary to have obscure names on what is meant to be just our club forum ??
I would have thought that I should know most of our members, but I cant even find any hint as to who he is on his profile page either Rolling Eyes

This has to be a bit tongue in cheek Tim? or is it in glass houses live don't throw stones? You yourself use a nickname pseudonym elswhere and some people coming onto this forum may have no experience of conributing to a forum and therefore may be reluctant to give out any personal info whatsoever. I do realise where you're coming from but I'm sure given time and encouragement this situation will change Wink

I'm tempted to change my name to a nickname. I don't relaly have one though, other than "Trigger" and that only gets used by workmates Smile

Seriously though, the more people that use this forum the better. If people want to use an obscure screen name, fine by me. It's just nice to have a bit of interaction in the club, and hopefully it will continue and flourish!

Nope - not tongue in cheek at all Brian - see I knew it was you cos at least yours is your initials!
Even when I use a nickname I do at least put the real thing in my profile.....and on this, our own club forum, I cant see the need for anonominity that's all......
If it is a genuine attempt to bring a few more members together then I for one would appreciate knowing just who they all are - there are at least 2 names on here, who I have no idea about.
Anyway as usual, seems I am on my own with it. Crying or Very sad[u]

If you read my post I don't think you understood it, sure it's nice to know who everyone is but as I understand it you want to compel people to use their full names Question I don't think that would go down too well even if you were a moderator on here. By all means encourage them

Of course I read your post Brian - and don't recall ever suggesting that people should be "compelled" to use/display their full name! Perhaps I am not communicating too well Rolling Eyes I will try again.
This is a club forum for RDMFC. Not a public open world wide forum, which a great many of us are also members of. In the greater wider forums, there is little chance of actually meeting / knowing the other members, so not really knowing who the person with the odd nickname really is doesn't matter to me.
However, I am conscious that for various reasons, I dont actually know all the RDMFC members, despite having been a member myself for several years, and a committee member for most of those too. Now if some member are lucky enough to actually know everyone else , and somehow ( although god knows how ) be able to decipher who the nicknames I mentioned actually are, then they are either very intelligent, have inside information, or worked on the original enigma machine. I try to get on with people, and avoid confrontation, but find that this opportunity to improve communications is passing me by, solely due to me not even knowing who is who on here...and thats "my" own club! Now call me paranoid, or even a little fed up with things ( which I am ) but I just get the feeling that this is going to quickly develop into a limited resource, used by a select few "clique" members rather than the original idea of improving comms between all members. RDMFC already suffers from a "them and us" culture - whether people like to admit that or not - its a fact, and whilst on the committee I tried, along with several others, to dispel that, and encourage members to participate in things. I was very active in the newsletter department, and even gave a club night presentation to those who bothered to turn up. I have to say, that my own personal enthusiasm for club matters is waning.... as it has with other people in the past, although they - unlike me - just say nowt and fade away and we never really get to find out why. Why is my enthusiasm waning.... dunno - go figure as the yanks say. Does anybody care that I am losing enthusiasm? I doubt it.... why should they? - because a friendly club makes efforts to integrate its members.
It seems this post of mine has already developed into war and peace, and yet all I suggested was that people could at least indicate somewhere in their name, or profile, who they were ! Simple.
One of the very first postings requested that members should feel free to suggest things that they would like to see in the forum, and I have done just that, only to find myself having to make lengthy posts trying to "justify" my request....and explain how I am feeling.
Rant over...or maybe not.
