I was at the field today between 14:00 & 15:00 all on my own , good flying too. There is a dead sheep along the fence line towards the gate from the pits, I saw the farmer so reported this to her. I hope no one had plans for a BBQ .

.049 delta racers
Ok lads heres my proposed design.
wing is 3/16th sheet and fins are 8th with a couple of other bits. The canopy is just a rough guess but i think it finishes it off nicely. i could vac form some if we decide to use um.
Ok proposed rules.
2 classes, standard and unlimited.
Standard:-
model to be built as per plan no lightening holes or carbon etc.
Covering is builders choice
motor must be an unmodified cox .049 sure start with starter spring and plastic backplate.
All racers will run the same fuel. (fuel to be dispensed before race)
Unlimited:-
Model may be modified but must retain the size and outline of the original plan.
Any .049 glow motor may be used modified or otherwise
Any fuel may be used
Motor position is optional i.e pusher.
Thats the basic idea. so whats everyone think??

Re: .049 delta racers
hehe tis what you get for being smug. cheers fella.
Nice one al il get reading.
il do some cutfiles for it and see what the materials bill is likely to be so kits are an option. or il draft a plan for those who would rather build their own. which personally i think would be easier than laser cutting. There just so simple. maybe il bug rich to cut us some firewalls up. Forgot to mention the elevons are stock 3/16 x 3/4 trailing edge.

Re: .049 delta racers
Looks good Leigh. I reckon if you lay it out for cutting out with a fricking laser beam, and it will be reet. Don't tab the fins into the wings, and people can put them where they think they look best
I've found the engines on Ebay, not sure if they come with the starting springs, but they sell them seperately, so I'm sure I can get a few thrown in
THoughts for another "sub" comp - streamer cutting
Andy

A link for some old plan down loads:
http://my.pclink.com/~dfritzke/
Had more but the credit crunch has taken its toll. If someone can tell me how to put 'adobe' based plans etc from my computer on here there could be a few more.

On the subject of plans I've got a soft copy of the 'BLINK' (as in don't!!) delta. Kit can be seen here (scroll down a ways):

Re: .049 delta racers
Don't know what happend to the rest of my reply but I'll try again.
Design looks fine to me Leigh. The canopy not only looks good but will provide shelter for the battery and RX.
I have ordered a batch of four engines from Canada at a cost of £35.10 with shipping.
Here is a link to the Cox Canada website: http://coxengines.ca/home.php

HI guys!
Just a reminder, when the design is proven, and we have some interest in this venture, I'm going to do a big order of engines and spares and save a few quid on the postage

Re: .049 delta racers
Dave, if you go to the plans link on an earlier post you'll find a couple of twirly-wirly thing-a-me-bob plans.

Re: .049 delta racers
Yup tis wood. The idea is that you could make 2 or 3 in one go since my prototype took roughly half an hour to build. ive finished mine with wbpu varnish, im sure iron on would be quicker but i like the finish.
I will draft a plan today with all specifications and bill of materials. i think laser cutting these is just adding an unnecesary complication. Il format the plan so it can just be printed.
servos are cheapest from giantcod the 5gram tower poo ones will be fine. i also thought that fixing them on with cable ties would be a smart move. i think its best to look at the airframe as expendable

Re: .049 delta racers
I'm not sure, but I think Dave's a little bit happy......
I'll do a list when I get in from work, and people can tell me how many egines they want, along with any spares/props and what have you.....
I'm still struggling to believe that I have been talked into buying an engine that doesn't run on jet fuel or electrons......
Cheers
Andy

Re: .049 delta racers
Evening all, had a look at the prototype round at Leigh`s this afternoon and all I can say is "This is gooing to be fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun"
The plans should be available in a few days and it should not take more than an hour to knock one up.
Andy, when are you going to order motors and bits I have had a look at the site and I reckon as well as motors we need props, glow heads, springs, spinners(the small ally ones)and maybee the glow plug head conversion if we want to use our own plugs.
I allready have an order for a built one from Steve Price accross the road and he has not even seen the drawings
Can we estimate how large the tank needs to be as I want to make up some tinplate ones like the old control line ones we used to use.
The balsa is in stock and the bench cleare.
BRING ON THE CARNAGE

Re: .049 delta racers
I'll be putting an order in on friday this week. Soooo, if people can let me know what they want adding, I'll get my negotiating head on, and see what sort of a discount we can get for buying much enginage and spares in one go
I was thinking along the same lines, as well as engines, some props, spare heads, spinners if needed etc.....
Either reply here with what you want adding to the order, or send me a message, or let me know on Thursday evening down at the field
Cheers

Re: .049 delta racers
Not had much time to work on this today its 11.30 ish and ive just got out of the shower after workin on me car.
so after dave calling round we thought about using a radio "brick". il try the theory on the prototype before i finalize the plans.
The canopies. i thought of using some off the shelf canopies to house all the odds n sods they would make a nice cover for the radio. if anyone has any ideas speak up. i want to avoid having to build a fuz or any sort of box on top. this thing needs to be an assembly rather than a build.
Materials list
3/16" sheet for the wing. one sheet should just about do one wing
1/8" sheet for the fins.
1/2" square strip for the bottom
3/16" square strip for the leading edges.
3/16" triangle for fin reinforcement
3/16" x 3/4" trailing edge stock
3mm lite ply.
Get shoppin!!!

Re: .049 delta racers
please bear in mind that this is untested and needs final trimming. you may notice there is no cg mentioned on the plan. i will update it as soon as i have sucessfully flown the prototype. just hope this wind stops soon
