I was at the field today between 14:00 & 15:00 all on my own , good flying too. There is a dead sheep along the fence line towards the gate from the pits, I saw the farmer so reported this to her. I hope no one had plans for a BBQ .

Hello!
Hello all!
Just wanted to introduce myself, I came to the St Asaph show & watched the fantastic displays you put on during the day. I have always had models from early teens, got my first heli (Morley Bell47G) whan I was about 16, but I havent done much flying for the last 10 years or so as work (I was a Flight Test Engineer for Harrier & Tornado) kind of got in the way.
Hopefully I would like to get back into flying, I think from looking at the show it will probably be a quadcopter (with FPV once I get up to speed) & maybe a nice slow vintage style plane to re-learn on.
I still have several Morleys, ShuttleZX, Kalt Whisper, Piccolo, E-sky, Buzz flyer, Fly boy, Yammamoto, Wot4 & a few others, but apart form the Buzz flyer I dont think I would trust the radio or batts etc on any of them even if they did still work once the layers of dust were removed!
If anyone has any suggestions for what to look at either aircraft or radio wise, let me know (bear in mind I will have forgotten pretty much everything as far as aircraft go & im pretty rusty with the helis)!! I was hoping to come down to the field and have a look at a few models & watch for a bit to get back into it first.
Cheers

Re: Hello!
Hi Andy, im new to the sport myself and have only been with the group for a few weeks or so but the lads down there are a fantastic bunch and will help out in anyway possible.
just pop down the field whenever really, most of the lads will put on here when they are venturing down there.

Re: Hello!
Thursdays are usually clubnights, but whenever the weathers pretty good there's someone down there.

Re: Hello!
Hi Andy,
This is going to get confusing, three Andy's on the same thread!. You are more than welcome to come down to the field. AS mentioned, we normally have a club night on the 1st tursday of the month, but generally if the weather is good, somebody(s) will be there. The weather forecast is looking okay-ish for sunday afternoon, so I might head over for a few hours then.
As for a model, for fixed wing, you can't really go wrong with a wot4. you could probably refurb your existing model with some new servos/radio and tx, or look at buying a newer secondhand/brand new instead. That would allow you to relearn the basics, and then some!
When it comes to quadcopters, I think the unanimous recommendation would be for a DJI F450 artf kit, and a DJI Naza lite flight controller. It is super stable, can carry a small camera (gopro sized), can carry FPV gear, and can even do aerobatics. They are dead easy to build (we've built two at the field within about 2 hours each!), and are quite tough. IF you do break bits on them, the arms act like fusible links to save the expensive bits, and only cost about £3.50 each to replace...

Re: Hello!
Hehehe! Thanks for the welcome!
Same thing happened on the car forums, looks like I will now be DREW!
Im ripping up my own field with a mini digger today (keep threatening the other half when she comes back there will be a runway instead of a paddock!), but should be able to get down this aft.
Any idea of a rough time? I will prob try nipping over about 2ish to see if anyone is there.
Cheers

Re: Hello!
Thanks guys for all the info today, had a great afternoon. Plenty for me to think about. I will bring my buzz flyer and E-sky next time to try to blow off a few cobwebs!

Re: Hello!
Good stuff, get some of those old airframes out too, and bring them down! A bit of cleaning up, new battery/switch and rx and they will most likely be good to go

Re: Hello!
Hmm, not convinced, I will still dig them out & bring along, but I think they may be more suited to later tinkering once I have got back into the swing of things. Since I never intended to leave them so long, I didnt do things like drain tanks fully & get the engines ready for storage, so they are kind of frozen in time held with gummed up glow fuel reinforced with dust! New fuel lines/tank & full engine strip down & clean needed before flight really.
The click and pay, followed by a few hours assembly of the quads & nice new trustworthy radio are a little too tempting at the moment!
Just reading through the Phoenix UAV website at the moment.....Few weeks away down in Bath for trainin.... erm I mean a holiday for the mrs & me?? Mmmm!
