I was at the field today between 14:00 & 15:00 all on my own , good flying too. There is a dead sheep along the fence line towards the gate from the pits, I saw the farmer so reported this to her. I hope no one had plans for a BBQ Smile .

AR 6000 rx range? Empty AR 6000 rx range?

Post by Marty on 2012-02-17, 22:36

Hello Chaps, can anyone shed any light on the Speky AR6000 rx? it is labled as a "Park flyer".
What exactly is a park flier and what sort of range can be expected at standard? Would it be an acceptable rx for F3K?
Thanks.

Its an old, DSM ( not DSM2 ) receiver, but I have to say, I have had one in my wildthing for YEARS, and its never missed a beat - range is pretty much OOS on a 46" model.
The only reason I changed it was because the new DX8 tx isnt DSM compatible

Hi Tim, The one I'm looking at is actuly one of your old ones! lol
So, What is a park flier? is it like the Mustang I had?
What would you estimate the maximum working range to be, compared with the AR6255?

Ah, that figures. Park flier is normally meaning something smaller than the mustang, light foamy models and small stuff like the slow stick etc. Its really a bit misleading, and like so many things, the term migrated over here from the USA - where a park is a bit larger than the average UK park! Personally speaking, I just don't fly anything in a public park these days ( there are exceptions such as the Wirral club ) but generally speaking - I consider anything much above 36" wingspan a bit too big for a park.
Speed, model weight and type and agility of course also enter the equation.
Estimating working range is very very difficult as several factors are involved such as aerial positioning and so on - its the main reason even the manufacturers wont even state it !!
Personally, I'd fit the AR6000 and enjoy it.... or, why not temporarily stick it in something like your Wildthing, or cherub or whatever, and then try it, high up and far out at the Orme?
A lost signal up there, in a model like that, will result in the model blowing back closer to you, and signal will be regained. Its a method I use often.
Don't forget also the proper range checking procedure should give a good idea of how things are looking.

Once again Tim, Thanks.
What I'll do is put the Ar7000 in the phase 6, the AR6200 in the Garnet (with a weight penalty of 5gm's over the AR6255) and a AR6000 in the U2 (Due to it being all black I don't intend flying it at redicules distances due to potential orientation problems for me!

If its one on Tims old ones it will have a range of about 3 feet then! Laughing

Check this vid out Marty - you will be surprised the range on some of the park flying rx's - if you can still see (let alone orientate) your model at these ranges there is a pint and a tot of rum in it from me!
