Pilatus Turbo Porter 96"

Post by melfyn on Tue Dec 02, 2008 1:57 pm

Here are some photos of my latest project a Jamara 96" Pilatus Turbo Porter. I have yet to decide on an engine for it, at the moment it is a toss up between a 120 two stroke glow or a 26cc petrol.
The weight of the airframe at the moment with six servos, U/C and cowl but without engine, batteries, switches and throttle servo is 9 pounds.
The tail plane and undercarridge have been made removable to enable the fusellage to fit into the car. As well as the three M4 nylon hold down bolts the tailplane is also barced by a pair of 2mm steel rod struts.
Each of the strut braced two piece wings is located to the fusellage by a pair of 6SWG piano wire pegs and an M6 stud secured by an M6 nut and washer. The aluminium wing struts are of thick walled tube with a 90 degree bracket at the lower end which connects to an aluminium bracket on the fusellage, and a heavy duty M4 ball link at the top which connects to an M4 stud in the underside of the wing.
The undercarridge is not the original one, this being a heavy guage wire affair which was missing from the kit. The one fitted is a Carbon Copy quater scale unit.
I will add more pictures as the build progresses and provided Photobucket will allow me to upload more of them without having to pay.

Hi Bri, yes that idea had crossed my mind. I just need to work out the correct location on the fus for it. The other job I have in mind for it is a camera ship. So I shall include both items during the rest of the build.

Nice Bird Mel,

Defo needs to be a tugger mind, and good luck with the camera ship idea, I used my blue and pink one with my HD video camera last year but the result was poor with all the vibration

Look forward to seeing it come togeter

Pilatus Porter update

Post by melfyn on Fri Dec 12, 2008 5:33 pm

Well It's almoast complete, just a few odds and ends to finish off. The engine I finally chose is a CRRC Pro GF26i petrol, a very compact little unit and fairly light too. As can be seen from the photos the cowl which started as a ten inch long substantial ABS moulding has been reduced to just a tad over four inches in length.

Here are some up to date photos:

Hi Mel,

Looks like a nice installation your going on with, here's a link to a couple of different release methods pick the one that suits your airframe, the release needs to go in the fuz not the wing. I've used them all in the past, keep it simple is the best advice I can give. Give me a call if you need persuading at all
