I was at the field today between 14:00 & 15:00 all on my own , good flying too. There is a dead sheep along the fence line towards the gate from the pits, I saw the farmer so reported this to her. I hope no one had plans for a BBQ Smile .

Hi,
Just a quick note to say hello to all forum members...and to ask a couple of questions.

Firstly could anybody advise on a suitable trainer..my daughter and i both plan to learn to fly.
My next question is...has anybody out there got a plane that they're selling?

Hi Owen,

The first question to ask is have you flown anything before?

There's a whole range of types of model that could be suitable for you. If you have then probably best to continue from where you were. If not then some of the electric gliders with pusher motors can be very good. I also depends on what you would like to fly

Hi,
The only plane i've flown was when i went for a nosey last thursday evening was a powered glider with Tim..he kindly let my daughter and i have a go .
He flies mode 1...but i've decided to go mode 2...i've a nitro r/c subaru with the throttle on the left , so mode 2 it is!
I must admit i liked the idea of the powered glider and have been looking on the internet for examples.

The only problem is toooooooo much choice!!!

Welcome to the club!
You are right with the "too much choice" observation, and unfortunately it doesnt get much better as you get deeper into the hobby, it soon develops into "I want I want I want!" Laughing

As Allan says, the choice for a beginner is quite vast, but basically you want to go for something slow flying (gives you more time to react, which combined with orientation is a big hurdle to get over as you start getting into the hobby), and also preferably "high wing" - (where the wing sits on top of the model) - helps with stability in the air.
Im by no means an expert, but If you go for a traditional trainer plane, I would suggest a model where the wings are held to the fuselage by elastic bands (they flex on impact and are more forgiving to damage on the inevitable dodgy landings!)

As an aside, could be good timing, I was actually considering selling my trainer the other day to make room in the hangar. Its an old Precedent Hiboy. Its seen some action, but flies straight and true! (infact google "stubbsy RDMFC" in images to see one of my better landings with it) Laughing
Will certainly get you trained up and will also see you both through your A tests! As I say its seen some action and is not brand spanking new, but its in good condition and rest assured I certainly wouldn't sell a lemon to anyone within the club! Wink

Also dont forget though, there will be other things you will need to purchase aswell when you start out, apart from the plane - if you go all electric you will need Lipo's, a decent charger, speed controllers etc, where-as if you go traditional nitro, you will need fuel and hand crank, glow stick etc etc! PLUS, whichever route you go down, you will also need a radio set and receiver etc etc?!

Keep asking questions - its the best way to learn! (Teacher in me talking!)
