Should have used poo instead!

Post by Stubbsy on Sun Oct 30, 2011 3:24 pm

Thats it - its official! Uhu Por is the worst glue on the planet!

I have just taken off a piece of supporting tape on my new shokkie wing which has been drying for THREE WEEKS (forgot the tape was on the underside actually) and within two minutes the whole wing has fallen off - attatched to the still uncured glue which looks all stringy like molten toffee!
Just the weight of the wing has pulled the leading edge carbon from its seating, detatched the wing from the fuse at the root, and pulled the wood and carbon support from the bottom of the plane!

Damn you Uhu - Damn you!

YUP IT IS ONE OF THE VERY BEST FOR FOAMS - YOU PROBABLY DIDNT LET IT DRY LONG ENOUGH BEFORE BRINGING THE TWO SURFACES TOGETHER.

Use it like contact adhesive. apply to both surfaces, leave until they are both almost but not quite touch dry, then bring together the surfaces. support and leave for a while for the glue to fully dry. it sounds like you used the glue wet, in which case it takss ages to dry and isnt very good....

Hmmmm - actually thinking about it - That particular wing section was glued using the last of an old tube - the rest has been done using a new tube recently bought! - could be that, although to be honest, I am quite impatient when it comes to building (especially with two young kids at home and lack of avaliable build time) so might have jumped the gun a bit with mating the two surfaces too!

Okay Uhu - you have bought yourself one last chance! Suspect

I find it can /should be left for at least 20 minutes before joining.
I have on occasion left it a LOT longer, and it still worked great.

Well done Stubbsy on getting the glue to work. All you need now is some solvent to melt the APRON STRINGS jocolor
