Galaxy F3P From Hobby King

Post by Mark Barnes on Wed Sep 21, 2011 10:01 pm

Work has started on my first shokkie build of the season and for a change its an off the shelf model.

Earlier in the year my Dad bought a few of these so it was rude not to have one.

The model is the Hobby King Galaxy F3P, first impresions are very good kit comes complete with a nice little 2100Kv motor and a prop,

Along with all parts and carbon required to build the airframe, to this you need to a a 10amp ESC, minimum of 3 3-9grm servos an RX and afew 250-350mah 2s1p lipos.

The depron parts and very nicley cut out and are milled for added lightness, have to be honest and say its some of the best off the shelf milling ive seen to date.

Anyway I started the build tonight but will be using carbon parts from Robert @ Flying-Dog as there lots lighter than that supplied in the kit (not to put a downer on the kit mind the stuff supplied is more than upto the job)

And for REF no blenderm will be used. All my hinges will be POR

Build in the normal way of upside down, but I couldnt resist a quick right way up to see how she looked.

I will update as the build gose along with any other tips and trick I do to change the stock kit

I likes the look of that dinky motor. What prop will that be turning on a 2s lipo? About 8x3 ish?

Looks abit fast for a true F3P, lets see how much weight I can shift

Other than that it looks ok

As stated elswere. Ive finaly flown the Galaxy.

The build was pretty straight forward for anyone thats built a shokkie before no real dramas apart from the pre made guide holes for the wing bracing being no were near right.

I added extra lightness by doing the following. Milled the top deck (only bit that isnt factory milled) used pull pull on rudder and Ele mylar tread was used for this. Carbon Motor mount from Flying Dog and I didnt use any of the plastic suports supplied in the kit. I also used carbon rod from flying dog as it was slightly lighter than kit spec. (I also didnt use as much carbon as the kit sugests as i didnt thing it needed it)

Flying wise it was pretty straight and true off the mark, cog was abit nose heavy using the pre cut battery slot on 2s1p 360mah (allthough i did lighten the back end alot so that dosnt help).

After around 5 flights last night i started playing with abit of mixing to fine tune, anything with right rudder made it pull to the canopy abit more than it did using left so by the end of the night i ended up with 8% mix to the left and 12 to the right (but it still needs abit more)

I would say for a relativley cheep kit Im very impressed. it flies alot better than the Click (although my building of these has improved since I owned one) and is on a par with the Wisper Mk2.

Weight wise it came out at 145grm with Battery, equiptment used was Tower Pro 2203 1400kv motor, 8amp ESC, 3x SG50 servos, Specki 6001 RX, 2s1p Rhino 360 lipos. So more weight could have been saved using lighter equiptment. I reckon 110g is easily achevable.

Vid comming soon proberbly from Rhyl on the 5th.

Spot but, I have never ever been able to add lightness, to make something lighter I have always had to take something away, but there you go, I think I will use KEVLAR thread as I don't think mylar would stand up for long. Didn't you use the HK2403 supplied as in the pic.

I know I am before you say.

the tearm "add lightness" is what us pro's call it.

Correct Kevlar thread not mylar.

Yes you are!

No didnt use the supplied motor, went with what i know as the supplied dosnt fit on my carbon mounts
