I was at the field today between 14:00 & 15:00 all on my own , good flying too. There is a dead sheep along the fence line towards the gate from the pits, I saw the farmer so reported this to her. I hope no one had plans for a BBQ Smile .

SU-26 - knife edge coupling.... Empty SU-26 - knife edge coupling....

Post by Andy Sayle 2011-06-21, 10:17

Morning all,

I got my Wildhare Su26 out from its winter rest yesterday, and had a bit more of a fly. I've tweaked the CG a bit more (although I still think it is a little bit far forward) and it is flying nice now. One thing I noticed though, is that there is a bit of knife edge coupling going on (and I can't remember which way around now!).

When in the knife edge that starts by rolling one way from upright flight, there is very little coupling at all. However, if I roll the other way into knife edge, there is a quite a pronounced nose down couple going on.

Is it normal for this to happen? I was going to have a stab at mixing it out, but doing an asymmetrical mix is going to need a bit more brain power than I have available at the present time....

Andy I thought you said in our pit chat yesterday that you thought the Suk to be tail heavy ? An assymetrical KE mix shouldn't be too difficult to sort out, need to fly land adjust and fly again till sorted Wink but finalise your C/G first

Once you've decided if it's nose or tail heavy & sorted that out, I would try to set the rudder movement so that it will knife edge with the rudder stick at maximum travel, I have found that mixing is required purely because you are using to much rudder, once you've done this you may only require a small mix if any

I've put another couple of ounces of lead on the front end, so I'll see if that results in a perfect CG, and see how it goes from there.

Cheers for the tips Smile
