I was at the field today between 14:00 & 15:00 all on my own , good flying too. There is a dead sheep along the fence line towards the gate from the pits, I saw the farmer so reported this to her. I hope no one had plans for a BBQ Smile .

Ever since taking the sticks on Simon Cockers smaller B52 a couple years back, I have promised my self that one day I will have one. Simon kindly gave me a copy of the plan ( his design some time ago ) at the weekend, and at around 7' long, the first thing I might need is a bigger building board! - and the second is a refresher course on building off plans - my last plan build was an Acrowot around 25 years ago...ever since then, I have been on a diet of ARTFs - its the only diet Ive ever stuck to. Embarassed
So, in summary this bird is some 102" span, so just how the hell I'm gonna get her in the car is another problem - maybe strap the fus to the roof and watch the amazed looks on the trippers faces along the prom Very Happy .
Anyway..... shes pretty much all foam, and cutting such large wing panels is the first thing I need to suss.
Each Eppler E205 panel is around 1800mm long.
Root template @ 460mm chord, and tip @ 193mm.

I'm deffo gonna need some help with this one, so all offers of advice, tips etc, and especially actual practical help greatly appreciated.
I probably shan't be starting her until end of this season TBH.
For those who haven't seen this thing yet, here's a piccy from a couple of years back. The baby B52 B52andTimbo

Watch Andy he's a" Design Engineer" you know.

My CNC 4 axis foam cutter has a max root cord of about 500, the panel length is in the region of 1000mm if you could split the panel were probably in business, can you send me a pdf of the plan via email I have Profili Pro to set up the wing I'll have a dabble with it, I have the E205 already on file

Hmm - not sure how the heck I can PDF the plan - at the moment all I have is the actual 7' long paper version, lying on my garage floor!
I could bring the actual plan along to our next field trip - whose going tonight?

Just a quick test, 1800mm x 460mm @ root, 193mm @ tip, the panel has a sweepback of 100mm

Er, make that Senior Design Engineer in one job, and Consultant Design Engineer for the other Wink

Splitting the panels up should be pretty easy I reckon, especially if you are CNC cutting them. You can quite easily use the wing shucks (the bits that surround the cut panels, that are normally binned) as alignment jigs for bonding the panels together too... You could also cut in some alignment features (like a dovetail type join when viewed from above) into the blocks to the panels just lock together in the right place for bonding.

Of course, that would take a really skilled CNC operator, probably one that had Profili Pro in fact.....

Oh, and for practical help, if you want me to convert anything to CAD drawings/models etc, then let me know. unfortunately I don't have access to a large format scanner at work any more, but unless it is amazing complex, it isn't a huge job to re-draw stuff....

Thanks guys, and after tonights little committee meeting down the field, sounds like we are half way there to getting things sorted.
Jem and Zaidy are also planning to do one, so a squadron of three whistling there way around the bay should be impressive!
Im off to source some foam tomorrow....me thinks this one could jump the queue of other things planned for the workshop Very Happy .
