I was at the field today between 14:00 & 15:00 all on my own , good flying too. There is a dead sheep along the fence line towards the gate from the pits, I saw the farmer so reported this to her. I hope no one had plans for a BBQ .

Model Glasses
Bought these a few weeks back come complete with four different pairs of lenses two of which are polarised a headstrap cleaning cloth and carry case. I'd seen the adverts for a while in the BMFA newsrag and never being 100% happy with my prescription photochromics decided to give them a try and am well pleased, at just over £70 for the prescription versions I thought good VFM and obviously cheaper if you dont use prescrition specs I tried the yellow lenses on the Orme on Sunday and they are brilliant in bad light
Re: Model Glasses
Brian, are you still pleased with these sun glasses? how have they stood up to wear and tear?
I suffer from watering eyes, I always have, I need a set of sun glasses that a) stops me squinting and b) stops my eyes watering in the wind. do you think these would fit the bill? (not that I'm buying for bill! )
I don't want to hijack this thread but .........
General question for everyone:
What do you wear?

Re: Model Glasses
Hi Marty yes still wear them regularly, have not had any breakages or need for spares, for me they almost totally eliminate the eye watering syndrome though they may not be quite as good as ski goggles in a howler on the Orme. That said I haven't felt the need to rush out and buy said goggles.
Re: Model Glasses
Thanks Brian, Ill be interested to see if anyone else comes back on this one and I hope you don't mind me hijacking this thread.
If your at the field at the weekend maybe you can let me have a look at your glasses?

Re: Model Glasses
I normally wear contact lenses when flying, but fond that the slightest breeze can cause my eyes to water big time. I'd hate people to think I was crying, so I got myself a pair of Oakley Radar sunglasses. They are quite big but coveru eyes really well, even on a bit of a blow. That said, I could do with something for when I don't have contacts in, as they can get a bit annoying at times....

Re: Model Glasses
Know what you're saying Andy, I wear contacts most of the time coz glasses are such a pain.
This "watery eye" thing is a lot more common than people realise.

Glasses hmm
After I sat on few - decided to buy some cheap this time.
Quite simmilar to Brian's - 3 sets of lenses, hard cover , bag/cloth, headstrap ,special foamy frame (to comfy use with headstrap) .
All theese - 6.99 GBP in Lidl.
Unfortunetlly not in sale now - and links are not working
Just small picture in the top left corner here >> glasses<<
Before I used raybans great visibility - but not very good in the strong wind- then some beter quality sunglasses with wide lenses, and then JR propo (disapointment - but only 12 GBP )
So looking forward to test my new 6.99 quids cheapest sunglasses ever

Re: Model Glasses
I have these Robert, I got them last year for a bike road trip to Faro in Portugal. They are fine providing you don't turn your head , the foam liners tend to stick to your skin and hold your eyes open ...... most disconcerting
Like with most things, you get what you pay for.

Re: Model Glasses
For field flying I have a pair of polarized Aviator style sun glasses cut to my distance perscription. Great for flying in sunlight. For the Orme, in a blow I have a pair of ski goggles which fit over my glasses. Have not tried the yellow contrast enhansing glasses yet.

Marty
Have you pinched Zaidy's diving helmet?
He'll be needing it when he gets to Thailand
Zaidy
Can you manage without it?

Re: Model Glasses
Marty, I have some "model glasses" similar to Brians, with threee different lenses, ( not prescription) ou can try those when we meet if you loike, As they are wrap around, i find them fine on the Orme too, - have used them in up to around 80MPH wind.....also use them for "normal" flying too. I paid around £25 for mine a couple of years back, ( "aviator style" ) but I see the range has changed...along with the prices!

In worse case - I'll just use the case for new glasses.
If they keep eyes open - will be great for long car journeys
And yeah - you get what you paid for - I just got tired with sitting on my all glasses - it's just thing I do
- will have that engraved on my tombstone

Re: Model Glasses
I saw dave S and some others with ski goggles on the orme so I got myself a pair, and I do have (if needed) as set of aviator style glasses but I only seem to need to use them later on in the day when the sun gets quite low

Re: Model Glasses
Thanks for that Sam, I saw a picture of you wearing a pair of ski goggles and was waiting for you to come on so I could ask how you got on with them.
Re: Model Glasses
They always seem to mist up slightly on me...thats why I prefer the specs.

Re: Model Glasses
Yes they work fine!
Just after a couple of hours after using them, when you take them off, the world seems so dull and gray not being bright orange any more!
