Testy test

Well ive recently set up my tutor 40 with my dx7 and it has never been tested while it has been in my hands, so I want to test it to make sure that the engine isnt a dud when it comes to starting at the field.
So how would i start a glow engine on a plane?
Ive got myself a steel rod and some blue rope as a tether like I have seen some other guy's do at the field, ive got a glow igniter from my car, fuel, and Ive made sure that there is a 1-2mm gap at idle and it shuts off with the trimmer!

You seem to have all the bases covered Sam, tread carefully with your glow igniter some of the ones intended for IC cars are quite long to allow for the deep cylinder heads on car engines and on an aircraft they can tend to drop off with vibration when the motor starts, which can be tricky if it falls into the rotating prop ie it can throw it up in your face. I'm not saying don't do it just be aware of this issue. As for starting, once you've filled your tank and restrained the model switch on your T/X first then the R/X and make sure things are working, particularly your throttle for a ground run. Next with throttle open and glow disconnected, you need to choke your engine, put a finger over the mouth of the carb and flick over the engine a couple of times with your other hand or a chicken stick. Whilst doing this you should see fuel coming up the line to the carb. Once you've done this connect your glow igniter, close your throttle to just above tickover and apply your starter to the spinner, I assume you have one, and give it a go. Above all else make sure it's well tethered and keep your pinkies away from that prop Good luck

Also be VERY careful when removing the glow igniter, it's all to easy to get bitten by the prop .

Well it worked a TREAT, I saw Dave S reach over the prop to grab the glow igniter so that is what I did!
I put a tank through the O.S. LA.46 and she ran great!
Only the first time I tried to start her up, the prop nut came undone!
So I spent a while trying to get my spinner off because the screws in the spinner were like cheese and even my dad struggled to get them out, so we replaced them with some better ones, started with a quick burst of the starter, and sounds GREAT!
After researching this planes history, it has never actually been flown, yet being 3 years old!!!
The fuel had turned to gunk in the fuel tank so I used some methylated spirits to liquefy it and remove it.
What would be the best plug to buy to use with this engine with 10% glow fuel?
