John Bowman has had Bob's widow on the phone concerned to know roughly how many club members plan to attend the funeral and will require refreshments afterwards. I know Jem's planning on going and I believe Dave and Tim are but anyone else is could you please post on here. From what I can gather I think she's planned for around ten from the club. J.B's making some enquiries amongst members who don't frequent the forum.

Rahme has said she would like to go and pay her respects also, so thats both of us,but no "reception" afterwards.

Ive never really understood the point of a reception in a funeral, as you forget why you are there and just talk and eat. the whole point of a funeral is to pay your last respects!!!!! not eat and chat about completely irrelevant things.

Re: Desperate News!!

Well lets not drift off topic, but a quick answer is ....
Some people may have travelled a fair way to a funeral - and the breaved partner /relative may think its only right to offer some refreshment. Furthermore, some people appear at funerals who may not have regualr contact with the family, so the reception afterwards allows a chnce to offer comfort and condolence in a less formal setting than a church or crem. I struggled with whether to hold such a reception for my fathers funeral last year, nd in the end did so - a very small gathering with just a few light refreshments, no alchohol, and my dad's favourite......home made warm scones Crying or Very sad

I hope to be at the crem only on Monday.
Funerals seem to be one place where families meet and chat afterwards so I do not want to impose on that thanks
